I finally found a fix. I unchecked the box “Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)” under “Settings” for “Media”. Now everything looks fine in IE.

I’m having the same problem with “squished” thumbnails in my gallery. The problem goes away when I change to a different theme. I tried the Developer Tool in IE8 but couldn’t find anything. Does anyone have a solution for my site? https://www.heartinkandsoul.com/blog.

I figured out how to change the permission rights. I changed the gallery and uploads folder in wp-content to 777 and it hasn’t fixed the problem. Any other folders or files I should change?

I have the same problem. For me, the blank spots appear in all sort orders. Can someone please tell me where/how I can change the chmod rights?

Thanks, I found it. I have to do the reinstall manually. According to the codex instructions I need to delete the .maintenance file. I found the maint folder but no .maintenance file anywhere…
