  • Thanks for the inputs, but in my case the exported file was stored as a Word doc. So, there is nothing to unzip. I can open the file and there are instructions in it as to what to do. Only problem is, that is does not work.

This is a serious problem, in my opinion. I do not want to be locked into one blog. I need the flexibility to move my content to another site.

I tried saving the file as a Word XML document. Then it seemed to work fine and even asked if I wanted to import images. It even says its successful in importing the content. But when I go to the site I see that nothing has been imported.

    Any ideas ?

I am having the same problem as shanDB. After exporting the file, when I try to import to a new install of WordPress (with the same name as the original), it gives me an error saying:

“This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number”

Was this issue ever resolved ???

    Hi,
I created a WP blog on my PC to try it out. I created a few posts, defined some catergories, loaded a few images, etc. Then to test the export/import feature, I exported a file to a directory on my PC. Then I uninstalled and re-installed WP again. Now, I installed the WP import and gave it the file name. It fails saying:

    “Import WordPress
Sorry, there has been an error.
This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number”

I tried saving the file as a Word XML doc. This time it seems to accept it because it gives no error. But it does not import anything.

    Can anyone help ?
