Also, it should go without saying, but the Image Teleporter and similar plugins can be used for nefarious purposes. I hope that all our users are using it to import images that they themselves own legally, such as their photos in their own Flickr stream or from an old website they own.

Adding the ability to import PDF files would be opening the doors to the pirate ship wide open. So it’s not on the roadmap.

Actually, as the designer of Image Teleporter, I can say that Image Teleporter was precisely designed to fix the problem of needing to import images.

I have no plans to develop a PDF importer any time in the future, personally.

So I stand by my suggestion to upload all the PDFs to the Media Library and try to use Search Regex to edit all the links at once.

Yes, the plugin can’t work when there are special characters like the + sign in a file name. We may find a way around it one day, but it’s currently in the “too hard basket” for this free plugin.

The plugin has some limitations. If your images have special characters or spaces in the filename, or don’t have a file extension on the end of them (like .jpg or .png) then the plugin can fail.

Otherwise, it may be an issue with your server. You could try running it with smaller batches.

Since most people don’t import posts into their site more than once, I don’t consider this to be a critical bug. Please just deactivate the plugin if you are importing posts from somewhere regularly.

No, but you can create galleries and add them to each page in the normal way in WordPress once they are all imported.

The plugin has some limitations. Things like spaces and symbols in the file name, and a lack of a file extension can all cause hiccups in the process.

I suggest you use the plugin called Search Regex to do a find/replace of all your PDF links, to correct the links.

{I’m assuming you have all your PDF files and can move them to the new site, rather than have to download a copy of every one on your old site.}

That’s a known limitation with this plugin. It doesn’t handle special characters well. We hope to add support for special characters in future.
