To everyone here waiting for an official: You might want to check if you have one of these incompatible plugins activated on your site. I had to roll back BackWPup from 4.0.1 to 4.0.0, and this fixed Matomo for me somehow.

Same error here. Seems that the plugin contains an outdated version of PHP-DI (6.0.2 where 7.0.5 is latest). Please fix asap.
