In reply to: how do I hide grades on student posts?I appreciate all your responses to my post about grades. Maerk, you said you would feel uncomfortable knowing your essays would be published on the Internet. That might be a problem. I know a lot of teachers have been starting blogs for their students, so it is a growing trend. I suppose I could give students the option of posting privately or publickly. However, I imagine most students want their essays to be read. I may run into administrative issues too — I will be sure to check on that.
I also want other students to read my feedback. I am hoping that when students can read other student writing, and see teacher feedback applied to that writing, and then also add their own comments every once in a while, they will learn better, be more engaged, and feel more involved in a learning community.
I think the best solution is as peiquiglong suggested — to create a table of grades, listing student’s as numbers rather than by name.
You know, there are some major software companies out there — WebCT and Blackboard — who could be quickly run out of business if someone tweaked a WordPress theme for academic purposes.
If I password protect a post, will it still show up in search results?

In reply to: thumbnails vs. original size when uploading imagesThanks for the link. I actually already read that. I’m familiar with the way the little menu appears when you click the image. I have selected “Using Original” and then “Send to Editor.” No matter what I do, it always inserts the image as a thumbnail. Does this feature work for you?

In reply to: Post attachments in comments field?I suppose, then, that posting attachments in comments is something no one knows how to do?

In reply to: Persistent searching? That’s pretty cool, but the idea I had was something more like pubsub or google alerts, where it continually searches and shows the results. With the Live Search feature, you have to type in a search — it doesn’t save the search when you leave the page.

In reply to: can wordpress sustain enterprise blogging? That does sound like what I’m looking for. The website is kind of sparse as far as information goes.

In reply to: code view pluginSomeone suggested an easier solution that has worked well.
For the <, just use HTML code <
For the >, use >
When using this HTML in the HTML editor, I had problems, but if you go to your user profile, you can deselect using the visual rich text editor. When substituting the brackets for the HTML code in the old wordpress editor, it works.

In reply to: using blogs as help authoring tools?Shacker,
I really like how you created your FAQ. That’s clever and it looks good.
I can hardly believe there’s not a plugin to control the posts.
Kafkaesqui, thanks for the link. I will look at it again.

In reply to: using blogs as help authoring tools? Thanks for your comments. Just to follow up, no one knows how to call posts only from specific page templates?

In reply to: pulling in posts from another blog?I use FeedDigest and it seems to do the same trick. However, what I would like to do is make the user’s post intermingled with the posts on the blog. Currently I just made him a separate category. When I pull his posts in on the main page, they appear below everyone else’s. Is there anyway to intermingle his posts with the posts of the blog so that they appear mixed chronologically?

In reply to: recommends for newsletter-looking themes? Thanks for the recommends. They look pretty plain, though. I was hoping to find a design that looks like https://www.nytimes.com, which I think recently changed into a blog.

In reply to: image editingHandySolo, I tried turning off the thumbnail by selecting the Original, but it didn’t fix it.
I did install the Image Manager and like that plugin. Thanks for recommending it.
I also got the rdg_inline-uploading.php file from the author and installed it — that worked to fix it too.
