In reply to: Remove White Space on Top of TemplateThe ‘white space’ comment caught my eye, so if this is the wrong place to ask this question I apologize.
I came looking for info re: white space in a css sheet and whether it slows down site loading. If it does, how do I accomplish removing it? My thinking is this is an esoteric comment made by techies that really do code from the ground up and that’s not me.
Comments and advice would be appreciated.

In reply to: [WP Google Fonts] WP Google Fonts – It works well with a little helpThanx for the video MikeinPDX. In the mid-stage of redesigning my website having spent way too much time on it and only now getting into the important content. But,
I can’t seem to remove my attention from the details, and ‘font’ is one of them. Don’t know a thing re: installing new fonts when just today I came across the plugin and later your video suggestion. It’s a big help.

In reply to: WIWINWIG when typing in DashboardMorning esmi,
The last time we corresponded was over 3 yrs back and I was in LA. For the past year I’m living in Tokyo with an eye on creating a biz for Asia. Hence the website redux and the time delay in corresponding with you.
My new theme is a combo Genesis + Child theme. Working with this is vastly different than the experience I’ve had working with the WP free theme I used for 3 years. But it’s a good thing as I’m the wiser for it.
Yes you’re correct about Pages, I should have said Text Edit in Mac. Can I safely use Text Edit to create a Page, then upload it without breaking the site? Does the text formatting arrive in tact?
Actually, working in the Dashboard now is identical to working in my previous free theme. So I was not surprised when this double space situation appeared again.
I’ve been wondering about the Dashboard Box that sez: Format. It includes Paragraph, Address, preformatted, H1, H2, etc. I don’t know, and never did understand how to use it. Can you point me to a resource that will guide me to using it properly? That may provide some answers to getting the results I’m looking for.
Thanx,

In reply to: WIWINWIG when typing in DashboardHi esmi,
I haven’t talked to you for a very long time. You actually answered some questions for me when I 1st got going with WP. Now to be clear with your comment…
I always thought the visual tab of the Dashboard was similar to working with a typical text editor like Pages on my Mac. But you’re saying it isn’t…hmmm.
Do I really have to go into css for every Page-n-Post I create? I just don’t have that skill. But, can I create a document in Pages for example, then copy-paste into the Dashboard? And if I do, does it retain the style or formatting?
What’s been happening esmi, is that often I settle for what’s produced which may not be what I want. So how can I proceed?
Thanx once again,

In reply to: better html?Saildude,
Yes, yes, yes! Thank you, it works like the proverbial charm. And,
While you’re on a roll, suggestions for in-line spacing, using space bar, that will survive?
BTW, if you care to comment: Are these issues a WP 2.9.2 issue or could it be a Theme design issue? Just wondering.
Thank you so very much,
Tom Dolan

In reply to: upload a plug-in to my blog.Hi macmanx,
I checked it out and it’s helpful. Thank you… and too I’m glad I choose Cyberduck, but I’m still not sure how to use it to upload to my blog. Would the address be something like: https://www.tomjdolan.com/plugins or something else?
Thanx for your interest.

In reply to: upload a plug-in to my blog.Hi wpbum,
Thanx for the advice. Don’t know how I missed that, but I did so thanx for commin’ to the rescue. It worked perfectly. Now while I have your attention could I presume to ask another niggling question?
I don’t use ftp often and am always amazed when it’s successful. So how would you advise me to use it if I must ftp to my wp blog. i have several free ftp services, the latest being- cyberduck.
Thanks for any info you send,

In reply to: linking within my blogHi Saildude,
Thanks for the interest. I might try that method. One of my issues is simply that I don’t yet understand how to correctly design a link.
For example, if I want to put a link in the sidebar, my questions are: what does this link look like? How do i place it where I want it? How do I write it so that it points to the place I want it to?
Setting up this WP blog has taken more time than I thought it would but I’d still be closer to the beginning than to the end if many of the features weren’t point-clik. Although in my defense, I have learned a bit and have taken some chances in the css.style editor.
Thanx Saildude, Tom

In reply to: linking within my blogesmi,
Sorry for the last message to you it was corrupted when I did paste/copy of the code in your message.
What I was saying is not ‘Contact Me’ but rather, I input what I thought was the “real url” taken from url bar of my web contact page. I simply wanted to be exact as I haven’t done any tweaking with php, yet.
So I’m willing to give it a go if that’s what you mean. And by ‘immediately after’ do you mean No Space between ?> and <p>…..
Thanx, Tom

In reply to: linking within my blogesmi,
The world may be flat, but I didn’t fall off. Been workin’ on the video post’s, haven’t been ignoring your suggestion.
So I located <?php endif; ?> When you say add this:
<p>Contact Me</p>Should it look like this:
<p>Contact Me</p>Every time I go near the editor I get woozy.
Thanx again.

In reply to: linking within my blogHi esmi,
Thank you for the response. Took me awhile to check back…didn’t think anyone was interested. But here is esmi, again. But frankly,
I don’t understand this: “Try adding a link to your About/Contact page immediately after the Loop in your theme’s single.php template file.”
Since our last communique, I have advanced, but I have yet to touch the .php files. They look daunting. I have become more comfortable assaulting the css.style I can say. So,
How do I locate this Loop and what would the link say?
Thanx, esmi.

In reply to: linking within my blogHi Dave-p,
The Text widget you mention, say I name it ‘Contact me’ and get it into my sidebar, how would I link it to my Contact form. I have the Contact form on my About page. My thinking is that bringing a visitor to the form on my About page might encourage him/her to view the About info too. Suggestions?
Thanx for your input,
Tom
