In reply to: upload a doc to fill a pageHi Jason,
Thanx for the suggestions. I have tried lots of approaches but none satisfied me. I did upload the jpeg but once it was published, the size would change when clicked. Didn’t like the pdf rendering. Finally I simply copied/paste and did all the text adjustments needed.
2 things I don’t like about the Dashboard, although it’s gotten better: I can’t copy/paste without text jumping around and losing all formatting. And, I can’t seem to position images exactly where I want, but I can always find a suitable compromise.
Thank you again for taking the time.

In reply to: [ZenCache] works for me.You’re Welcome. Considering the magnitude of individual computer configurations, even though built on WP, helps explain the challenges we all face when looking for the “right” plugin. Good Luck.

In reply to: media library: does size matter?Thanx for the comments. I have gone ahead and installed EWWW image(name??) and it did optimize the images. I assume effectively. Prior to that I did guess at smaller image sizes and resized them smaller in the Library image editor. I see a new smaller pixel as a result…and still wonder if I had uploaded a smaller original image size, would I have a better result for my site loading time… any ideas on that.
This is all prompted by a recent Google speed test that really complained loudly about needing to compress the image size…among so many other issues.

In reply to: Blog Post orderI’ll chk with the theme designer, I’m using Genesis with a Theme from another company and let’s see if ‘sticky’ works. Again, Thanx for the suggestion.

In reply to: Blog Post orderHello and Thanx for the ‘sticky’ recommendation. It Doesn’t look settled-down enuf for my needs. If it ever gets stabilized and doable by a non-coder, I’m interested.

In reply to: Header Title last to loadHi SWDM,
Back again tonight…you got my attention earlier. I just went to the Google Page speed and I like it better also. Some of the W3 comments didn’t make sense but it did point out some other minor issues that I corrected. Thanx so much for that guidance. I didn’t know about it.
On the other hand, Google Page Speed is very clear. I’m just beginning to examine the results and I don’t understand them completely but there’s a lot to see. The only page it checked was my home page which is a video blog. I assume it will check each page I submit. I might return with questions as I get into the report. In any event you turned me onto an evaluator that I must be aware of even if I can’t do anything about all of it right now. Thank you.

In reply to: Header Title last to loadHi again,
Thanx for your recommendations…didn’t have a clue they existed. I went to W3 and ran 2 tests, the Mobile & CSS. Both came back with issues. In fact the Mobile test returned 3 Header references but fact is I haven’t a clue what they mean, how important they are, or what to do about them. On the other hand,
I’m a bit more comfortable working with css so I’m going back to my site now and see if I can correct the 11 issues it uncovered.
Here’s the site: tomjdolan.com Please take a look if you have a moment…as this is my 1st venture into redesigning a site I figured there were numerous errors that I’d eventually uncover, just not so soon. Thanx again.

In reply to: url-vs-site titleThanx for your interest and after reading your comments I have some questions.
Seacoast: When you say Title ‘description’ are you referring to the ‘Tagline’ box in the General Settings of the Dashboard listed below the Site Title box?
Adamstar1: I couldn’t tell by your comment if you thought the ‘SEO implications’ of this change would be good or bad. How do you think the SERP most likely would change?
Again, thanx to you both for taking an interest.

In reply to: page titlesWPyogi – Yes, I switched to the newish Yoast plugin and as far as I can tell, which isn’t very far, it seems to be ok. I believe my content, mostly videos, is good as it’s all based on my own growth and experience working in media. I’ll begin producing again, but location has moved from LA to Tokyo, and the long time away has allowed me to refocus, redefine, and commit to outcomes. Growth can be exasperating but ultimately rewarding. Thanx for your interest.

In reply to: page titlesWPyogi – I think you’re right. After spending many weeks on this project, I’m looking at the smallest details, sometimes repeatedly. I think I’m caught-up in the minutia.
Thanx for the comment/advice.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: remove video from pageHi Julia,
Thank you for your comment. I don’t remember how I resolved the issue but it’s long past and I’ve been into my site redesign for a life-time. Today I was looking for info around WP Codex and checked my Profile which led to Questions I posted and there I discovered You and I realized I never thanked you.
Better late than never I thought.

In reply to: Post image has a baby 'clone'Hi Christine,
Your comments alerted me to the ‘featured image’ that I know little about. But with that information, the Genesis upgrade which I just performed this morning, got me to look again at the initial settings I chose when I installed Genesis about 6 weeks ago.
And there it was.
I had, for no good reason, checked a ‘featured image’ box. I saw that, unchecked it, and after a Settings save, a quik look at the site showed the smaller image was removed.
Thanx to you for that outcome. Frankly I still don’t understand ‘featured image’ and I’ll add that to my WP to-learn list.
Thank you,

In reply to: Post image has a baby 'clone'Hi,
I don’t recall seeing the featured option in the edit panels I’ve been using today. I did inspect the ‘source code’ in html of the small image. Not knowing what I’m doing exactly, I selected it, deleted it holding my breath, then updated from the Dashboard, cleared the Cache, and went to visit the site and there ‘they’ were….still.
If I select the small thumbnail it takes me to the Post > Page and on there, the only image is the large one which is what I’m attempting to achieve on the Post itself.
I produce videos mostly but occasionally insert images and have never experienced this result. A bit at a loss…
Thanx for your interest,

In reply to: page titlesHi,
That’s sounds like a really good idea. The only question I have is this, and admittedly it will seem simple to you, but does the h1 only control the Page titles? I’m learning by doing on this redesign, and I’m not as knowledgeable as I pretend… Thanx for your interest.

In reply to: remove white space for quicker load timeThanx for your comments. I’m occasionally using Pingdom to test site speed. The time results are at best uneven from the same 3 locations. Time of day, traffic?? More concerned about the % I rank as an indicator that my site is not performing speedily.
I tried W3 Cache, then changed to HyperCache. Results were about the same. I see something about ‘compression’ which I don’t understand as I’ve selected browser compression in HyperCache. And so it goes…. in any event, I’ll dismiss the css as a potential issue. Thanx again.
