  • I’m also having a probem with using the Duplicator installer. I’m not particularly knowledgeable about web-design and such but I updated my html site for many years. 2 years ago I made a WP site with some help from a friend to get me started. Now I want to update my old html site with WP one. I use Windows 7. I used Xampp to redesign my site on my computer using the Devi theme. I keep the Theme and the few plugins; Monarch and Yoest SEO updated on a regular basis as is my version of WP. I used the plugin Duplicator to create the zip package and installer to try to migrate the site to the internet. I first had some warning when creating the package with duplicator but resolved that using a plugin WP-Optimize to dump the revisions and clean things up. I then de-installed WP-Optimizer. Duplicator then created the package with no warnings. I created a file with the created zip file and installer and used Fillzilla to upload them to my server. My web hosting is with 1and 1. I give in the url mysitename/the new WP file/installer.php. Instead of getting the installer to start up, I get the following error message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in /homepages/14/d26455562/htdocs/ClownTB-WP/installer.php on line 191
I have no idea what to do. I found posts by people with similar problems and the responses seemed to be that either the version of PHP being used is outdated or there is simply mistakes in the coding. How can this be with a modern updated theme and installer created by duplicator which supposedly is so reliable? Is this just a matter of correcting some of the installer code or do I need to try to find a substitute for Duplicator or what? Anyone able to help with an answer that a layman rather than a computer expert can understand.

Have updated to 6.1.3 but cannot configure the firewall. Get message: We were unable to create the wordfence-waf.php file in the root of the WordPress installation. It’s possible WordPress cannot write to the wordfence-waf.php file because of file permissions. Please verify the permissions are correct and retry the installation.
I have NO idea where or how to “set permission” can someone explain this? The alternative mentioned, to manually set up putting text into the word press root, is also nothing but Greek to me. I have ZERO idea where, or how to do such a thing. Wordfence makes it sound simple but…

OMFG I tried with the wp-admin/upgrade.php but it says that there are no updates, my version 4.0 is the latest which is of course not true. Sorry but I am not a computer expert. I once before had to use the FTP to update WP and lost most of my work. The whole ways I see listed on how to backup my WP work is a nightmare well beyond my computer skills. Much of my work is contained in revolution-sliders which one can export to backup – only when I did this before and had problems and tried to import the backed up data none of it worked!

Sorry, I am absolute new tt WP and to using such a forum and didnt notice it was orgnaized by thme. I have reposted under keywords Theme Horse Interface Pro and revolution slider.

I am using Theme Horse Pro for my WP site and have set up a number of sliders using the revolution slider. I want to edit slides to put a layer with text on top of a photo. I can use the simple button function but don’t like the look of the limited selection. I tried to edit the style which supposedly gives a wide range of options of color, fonts , size etc. But I always end up with a simple black text that is very small, almost too small to read. A friend who knows a bit more about WP than me is using the same Theme and revolution slider and it works for him! We even copied the settings for the style he customized and put it into my revolution slider and it still doesn’t work. A small window states that there is an “ajax error” and a “parser error”. Towards the top pf the page I see the following message: Warning: file_get_contents(/homepages/14/d26455562/htdocs/app534228519/wp-content/plugins/revslider/rs-plugin/css/dynamic-captions.css): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /homepages/14/d26455562/htdocs/app534228519/wp-content/plugins/revslider/inc_php/revslider_operations.class.php on line 694
