I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I’ve had this problem for over a year now and I have not found a solution. In short, I have been living with the UGLY permalinks for that period of time.

Sorry to hear that, Sheiglagh. Glad to hear that it hasn’t hurt your Google rank, though. That’s (admittedly) one of my prime concerns here.

We don’t support IIS around here much because almost nobody actually uses it. My recommendation would be to switch to a Linux/Apache hosting. If you have to run Windows, get Apache for Windows instead. That’s almost as good as running Linux.

I wish I could, but it just isn’t an option in this case. The site that I’m setting this up for also uses ASP.Net, so I’m more or less stuck with the current setup.

Try a different URL rewriting plugin. I’ve had pretty good luck with this one (haven’t tried it with WordPress though):

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll be sure to check it out.

Thanks for responding, everyone. I really appreciate the help and input.

    Hello –

I just tried out this plugin, and I’m afraid that I’m getting the same Image Validation problem. I’m on a Linux server, Apache version 1.3.41 (Unix), PHP version 5.2.5, MySQL version 4.1.22-standard.; and I just installed the newest version of WordPress last night. Currently active plugins, other than Register Plus: Akismet, Replace WP-Version and Yawasp.

    Thank you for your help!

Okay, that seems to have cleared everything up for now. Thanks for the advice! Appreciate it.

Spot checked both ws-config.php and ws-login.php in Notepad. Made sure that both files started with <?php. So yeah, that looks solid to me. Guess I’m going to go ahead with the upgrade. Wish me luck…

IF you are absolutely positive that there are no line breaks or spaces in wp-config.php

No line breaks whatsoever? Or just no line breaks or spaces before the “<?php” tag?

you disable plugins (you havent mentioned doing that)

Don’t have any except for the two basic ones that came with WordPress. Also, to disable those, don’t I need to have access to my Admin panel in the Dashboard? — Which I can’t, because it won’t let me log in?

look inside your wp-config.php for any line breaks or spaces BEFORE the opening <?php

I’ve checked that file. I’m afraid I don’t see anything.

Also, upgrade. This issue pales in comparison to the problems associated with having an exploited site.

*sigh* Guess that’s the one thing I haven’t tried. Okay. I’ll give it a shot. Any other suggestions, in case upgrading doesn’t fix the issue?
