Fixed it. I simply put the NC rules before the WP ones.

I also took them out of the ifmodule tags so that it generates an error if that module ever gets disabled.

Nevermind I found it in Jetpack settings.

Fortunately, I am the guy running my server (and how often is this the case?) but unfortunately, I have no idea how to install image editors or if it entails purchasing additional features. I think the site icon feature would be a lot more attractive if it was a stand-alone function.

Incidentally, I have an icon file that’s already formatted and ready to use. Would be nice if there was a way to skip the editor and just drop it in.

Aha. I’ve got it now. Here’s my code…

Header and body backgrounds overlap. That means that even if you set the header bg to fully transparent, the body bg still shows through. I really want my header to have no background.

I tried it again using Jetpack, and this time it worked. It only affects the body of your page though. Now I just need to figure out how to do it for the header.

I installed the “Simple Custom CSS” plugin, and just copy pasted your code right into it.

OK I’ve figured it out. First, the two plugins which needed updating somehow got deactivated, but not by me. Second, if you try to update a deactivated plugin, you will get the error message I posted above, which is strange. You would think you could still update plugins, even though you’re not currently using them.

Anyway, once I activated them, they updated without problem.

How stupid of me. I should have know to search for “twentyeleven one column width”. It’s so obvious.

I’m quite familiar with forum searching, and I didn’t find any answers I liked. That’s why I asked, and I’m glad I did because I really like Courtney’s answer. I think I needed a different theme, not monkeying with code.
