Thanks for this, WPyogi — I appreciate it!

When I have some free time (!), I’ll back it up, and do the 3.9 – 4.1 – 4.2 updates.

    Thanks again, WPyogi!

I’m always afraid of updates — scary memories of early versions of Windows!

I’m only partially tech-savvy, and I’m having trouble understanding one of the first statements in that link you shared (“Upgrading Across Multiple Versions”). It says that one should update incrementally, but then says:

Please note that WordPress 3.7 introduced an easy to use one-button updater which will take you directly to 4.2. It is important that you continue to update manually as directed below until you reach two major releases prior to 4.2.

The recent automatic update brought me to 3.9.5. Is that two (or fewer) major releases prior to 4.2? Ie, is it safe for my to use that “one-button updater that will take me directly to 4.2”?

Also, I’ve yet to backup my WP site. For someone who is only partially tech-savvy, will doing so be a long haul (ie, hours or days)?

Thanks, in advance, for your help!

In reply to: Static front page

    Hi,

I’m new to WP, and I’m trying to make a static page into my home page.

I’ve read the posts re. Settings / reading / set static page as home page, and have followed the directions. However, this seems to lead to two problems: first, this procedure doesn’t seem to ‘replace’ the ‘home’ tab, but instead simply makes the static page the destination of the blog URL. It also leaves one with the confusing (for the visitor) situation of having BOTH a ‘home’ tab (that will now not go anywhere) and the tab for the now pseudo-home (static) page.

Are there any ways around these problems?

Thanks, in advance, for any help you’d care to share.

    All the best,
    Michael
