No. I have done this with 3 sites … turn off all settings, turn them on one-by-one, checking LinkedIn each and every time …the ONLY way to get the formatting in the LinkedIn system is to remove WP Better Security.
For others out there with troubles such as mine … out of desperation I went into the files on the server and went into wp-admin and downloaded the htaccess file there … and guess what? I couldn’t see the admin section pages because my IP address was not there!
I simply checked whatismyip.com and entered my IP and the pages appeared.
Interestingly enough … after deleting Better WP Security and the htaccess file, then uploading a fresh download of BWPS and copying the old htaccess file I could access the login screen and I now have the admin bar across the top … BUT … every admin page displays a 404!!!
Also, when I delete the .htaccess file AND the plugin I get a 500 access denied message.
VERY FRUSTRATING.
Deleting the plugin folder does NOT work. You have to delete the plugin folder and delete the .htaccess.
For me, I have a site that even this process still will not let me in! Now I can’t get into the site at all.
using /admin[secret code] isn’t working for me. still only getting “not_found”
Didn’t redirect me to the login page. I can’t seem to access the login page regardless of what I do.
Ok. My clients depend on me to be able to make changes to their sites on a timely basis. On this particular site, I receive 404s on /login and can not access the admin for this site.
Very frustrated and I am deciding I would just rather delete the software and gain access normally.
How do we do this?
This morning upgraded SLP to 3.5.3
The Google API was never touched since Google made changes to the map API (earlier this year?) and it seemed to be working fine until a few weeks ago.
I had assumed something happened to the Google API.
Unfortunately, the client is angry at me and not responding to me and the site now has the install screen so I can’t give you the link.
We’ll see if she climbs down from the ledge.
I deactivated ALL plugins except Store Locator and switched the theme to 2011 … Still receiving the error message
“The Google Maps API server rejected your request. The “sensor” parameter specified in the request must be set to either “true” or “false”.”
THEN, after deactivating Store Locator Plus, the error message goes away and the site can be used.
Now what?
Thank you for your in-depth response. Now I have something to look into and repair. Many of these things are beyond my skill level and her pocketbook … but … there ya go.
Thanks again.
I did speak with the client about not responding to your messages. She says she never received them. I told her we should go ahead and pay for support … but then realized that was a 3-day email response to a question. If support beyond that was needed it would be $250 for a 1 day login. She’s struggling to stay above water as it is.
But, suddenly I see another new version come out so upgraded it and the plugin worked fine for me on Mac + Chrome on her pc + Explorer plus on mobile or any other browser accessing the website is impossible due to an error message “The Google Maps API server rejected your request. The “sensor” parameter specified in the request must be set to either “true” or “false”.”
I de-activated the plugin so that people could use the site BUT the error message still remains.
Firstly, should I DELETE the plugin? or should I re-initialize the GoogleMaps API?
I simply can not figure out how to get in to my client’s site. I have tried every combination of /login , /admin, /login[secretcode] , /login?[secretcode] … etc. and can not get into the site.
Should I just rename the htaccess file and start with a blank one? Very frustrating
Thanks. I believe it is this line?
RewriteRule ^login/?$ /wp-login.php?############# [R,L]
But when I go to /login I am redirected to the home page.
When I go to /wp-login.php?############# I get not_found
So I am stumped.
I have the secret key but still can’t log in because I made the mistake of changing “login” “admin” and “register” with a word I can not remember and I stupidly did not write down.
Anything I can do? Or just keep trying to use words I thought I used?
