Since I’ve had no response on this, I’ve decided to just use WP’s gallery.

If anyone comes across this post and can provide help, I’d really prefer to use NextGEN’s gallery. But I had to move the page listed above so I can continue with development.

You can now see the NextGEN gallery page that’s not working at https://www.oxfordrescue.org/wp/rainbow-bridge/gallery-of-angels-old/

I’d sure appreciate a response if anyone can help.

It’s currently using the default template for the theme I’m using (multiflex 4) but I can certainly create a custom template just for the home page!

Okay, well if I truly can use get_posts in my page template, I’ll go back to re-exploring that option. I just read so many times on this forum ~not~ to mix pages and posts I thought it was forbidden (which honestly didn’t make any sense to me anyway!)

Thanks, I’ll give it a shot!

Just to add one thing, for anyone who looks at the site and sees what I did on the “true” home page (if you click the “home” link) – I did try to just put my “welcome” content as a sticky blog post and make the “home” page my primary “posts” page. This would allow me to have the posts I want display down below that – which would almost work for what I’m trying to do, except that I do not want the “welcome” sticky post to have the date above the post and the “posted on” info below the post – but I can’t seem to figure out how to remove that info from just ONE post on the page (I’d want it included with all the other posts below it).

Just thought I’d add it if anyone clicked Home and saw it, or was going to suggest this…

    Sounds good – thanks!

    Hi Esmi!

I did actually read that, but why it didn’t help me is that I don’t intend to move WP out of the /wp/ directory I created, I plan to keep it there. All of my other blogs I have installed WP in it’s own directory, yet make the home page of the blog be the root of the domain just by changing the URL in the General Settings tab. That’s all I intend to do this time as well.

I plan to just delete out all the files on the current static site when it comes time to go live with the WP site, and then change the “blog address” line in General Settings to go from domain.com/wp to domain.com.

It seems to me that this should be seamless and no problem, but thought I’d pick the brains of the more experienced here to be sure.

    Thanks!

Sure, you can do pretty much anything you want on WordPress, depends on how much you’re willing to touch some PHP code and tweak a template to look how you want it to. CSS will be a must.

WordPress can be a blog, or not be a blog – all up to you. Go into the Codex documentation for WordPress and read the getting started with WordPress. You can also search the codex and also google for “wordpress as a CMS” and you’ll get more info there.

There are a zillion WordPress templates (called themes) out there. You can find them here on the www.remarpro.com site or google for free themes. Find one that’s close to the layout you want your site to be, install it on your WP site, and begin tweaking away.

I am a web designer, and just completed my first WordPress website for a client – they requested the site be done in WordPress. It’s primarily a CMS website with a page for a blog, not primarily a blog. Yeah, there was a learning curve, and at times I was frustrated by something I could have done in HTML/CSS in five minutes took me 30 minutes — but next time, I will be able to do it in 5 minutes in WP too. Just be willing to accept there’s a learning curve. I have a TON of respect for WordPress after working on this project – you really can do pretty much anything in WordPress that you can outside of it – just have patience at first.

    Good luck to you.
