This is awesome—thank you for your reply.

This works exactly like I was picturing for the color and alignment…

But how do I significantly decrease the white space above and below the header on my static home page? The margin-top and margin-bottom adjustment affects the image below the H1 but not the white space above and below the H1. Is this padding? Or…?

    Thanks very much

I could do that, but I’m hoping not to have to resort to a back-up, as I’ve already established too much content since the prior update.

Does anyone have insight as to how quickly the issue will be corrected?

I’m having the same issue. It’s maddening. Other than not using Gutenberg, has anyone found a solution?

Thanks for your response- I appreciate it.

I’ve fiddled and faddled with it all and now am able to see my site, but ugh, nothing appears to have been backed up after all. Onto a new issue!

    Hi,

I am trying and trying to re-purchase the landing-page-as-homepage plugin (the newest version since I could not install the first one earlier this week) and nothing happens each time I click on the “purchase” button.

    Is there a secret password?

    Thanks,

Alrighty, I’ve got ‘er up and running, using the Suffusion theme, which seems able to handle all the latest.

Here’s what I did: I disabled the plugins via FTP, managed to change the theme to Suffusion, re-enabled plugins via FTP, then re-activated them one by one, which is when I saw that a couple of my plugins were a problem and immediately caused the “white-out” effect, so I will be looking for alternatives to them, of course.

Lots of work to do now as I get to know this new theme and learn to make it look the way I want it to, but The Shiny Butter Blog is back in business, so thanks much for all your help.

    This has been very helpful!

    Thanks for your reply.

Well, I did it- switched successfully to the Twenty Eleven theme- but still no access to the admin area- still blank.

Any additional ideas for how to recover access to my blog?

    (I’m lost without my blog!)

    Thanks so much,

I am using the Neutica theme. I cannot change the theme at this time, so I put “-old” at the end of Neutica on my C-panel- and then the blog went blank. So I took that off.

Is there a way to change the theme via my control panel? And if I do manage to change to Twenty Eleven, am I stuck with that or can I get my current theme back?

    Thanks much,

    Coco

No luck with the other two steps…

With the first step to try, do you re-name the theme folder, say, “Neutica-old” or “Twenty Eleven- old”? I tried the first name and nothing changed.

With the second step, I was then able to get to my plug-ins once I did that, but nothing changed after that.

With the last two steps, I am afraid I just jammed everything up- I know my content is there, but I cannot even see my admin page any longer— which happened another time and in that case, I deleted the plug-in (via FTP on my C-panel) that triggered the problem and then all was well. But this time, I just don’t know what I would delete- if anything- to get it all back to normal.

I appreciate hearing from you- thanks for your responses. Every time something like this happens, I learn something, though perhaps against my will. ??

Okay, well, I’ve done the first one and the second one and zero luck.

I am completely stuck now on the third and fourth- I am trying to do them, but am stalled by my limited tech ability and now, unfortunately, I have caused my entire admin area to go blank. I am now worried I am going to cause lasting damage.

Thanks for any more suggestions you may have- hopefully, you have something that I can follow and implement.

Ugh- I am wishing I had not been so eager to upgrade!

Great feedback~ thanks for taking the time to take a look. I’m glad the yellow and black grew on you!

I appreciate your comments about having everything jammed up on the left… obviously, I lean left, but maybe that’s just being too literal. ??

I definitely see what you mean about readability of the post and the comments- that has bothered me but is not customizable with that theme, so I will take a look at Suffusion, as well as some others to see what I can do. It will probably take some time to learn how to manipulate a new, highly customizable theme, but I am eager to get my format spread more. Learning how to manage my blog has been one school day after another, but I love that I know how something works after I’ve gotten over a learning curve.

Thanks for the compliment, too- much appreciated.

    Have a great one,

Okay, thanks- I know the yellow is different, but I really like the “European” feel of the graphics. It is a free (and rather old) theme that I would like to re-create from a premium theme so that I have a bit more control of it. Any suggestions on that, by chance?

Thanks again for taking a look,

Well, shoot, here you go- thanks for letting me know- I thought I had done that: https://www.shinybutter.com

Yes, I see that it’s installed when I go as a visitor, but the admin screen went blank as soon as I clicked “activate,” so that installation did me no good ??

I finally found the directory- I cannot believe that I have managed to do this. Every day’s a school day, I guess.

Below are the folders/directories I have at my server control panel- I found the directory with the plugin deep inside the httpdocs folder (just kept clicking to open the folders inside the folders) and clicked on delete and voila’ my admin page has returned.

WHEW- thank you!!!!!! I hope that this helps anyone else who searches for an answer to this problem.

Thanks for your response. I am reassured to hear from you and I am sorry to get back to you so much later.

The plug in that I installed is called “Share and Follow 1.80.3” In looking at its details, I now see that it requires WP 3.2 or higher. Well, I didn’t see that before I clicked the button- didn’t even know to look for it, in fact, as it hadn’t occurred to me that I can’t use just any old plug-in I want.

I looked all over google and concluded that I have encountered the “white screen of death” and evidently I am not its first victim.

I am now at my hosting control panel trying to figure out where the file you mention would be. I honestly cannot find it, as I looked under “File Manager” and see nothing with that name. It says that I have 11 files and directories- but none have even a similar name, and I just don’t see where else to look.

What would you suggest I do next? I’m stumped and feel powerless. Am I right that I can do something about this if only I can locate that file?

(I also searched my computer, thinking the file would be in the WP admin folder. There are only 2 files there under “plugins”- the 2 that “came with” my WP blog somehow: Akismet and Hello Dolly.)
