In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] Button not rendering on AndroidHi, This is very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
On the page that link links to it says ‘With a deprecation notice, the PHP code will continue to work and nothing is broken.’. I’m not sure exactly what definition of ‘broken’ they are using if indeed it’s this incompatibility that could be causing the problem.
The theme I’m using is WordPress Twenty Seventeen. Is it getting old now.
The problem with the play button I was having was intermittent. I don’t know if that means error logs only intermittently reported the ‘not rendering’ issue when I was still using PHP 8.1.
I’m not sure what I do with all this on a practical level. I guess I could wait until PHP 9 and then test the plugin with PHP 8.n to see if any issues with it and WP’s latest incarnation have been ironed out.
Thanks for the useful and interesting info.

In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] Button not rendering on AndroidHi, I thought I would check in with the final report. It seemed for a few days that changing the code fixed the problem. However, it had not as the issue returned. It had always been intermittent. In the end I tried downgrading the version of PHP and this worked. I was running on 8.1. I downgraded to 7.4. This permanently fixed the issue.

In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] Button not rendering on AndroidWell the analysis was broken down with those figures for the plugin, but overnight that has disappeared and it’s not even showing them in the results at all so I guess it just needed some time to settle down! Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it. And the button’s been working ever since I used your code!

In reply to: [WP 2FA - Two-factor authentication for WordPress] Hanging for minutesHi, Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. The problem has gone! I’m not quite sure how I fixed it to be honest but I think it might have been fixed by deleting all my DNS entries at CloudFlare, reentering them by manually copying them from cPanel, and not having any entries there pointing directly to my CDN but rather using a plugin to send stuff there. And then flushing every cache and giving it all time to propagate and settle down. I don’t know enough tho to know if that was coincidental, but I can think what else healed it. Thanks again for getting back.

In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] Button not rendering on AndroidBTW the plugin is adding a whole second to my page load time! This is despite having CloudFlare minifying CSS.

In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] Button not rendering on AndroidThanks a lot for all your help and for this suggestion. Since I used your code the problem hasn’t recurred. I did change the colour and put the writing after the button but I have kept out the line break that I had in before. It seems possible it was the line break that was causing the issue. Thanks again in any case.

In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] Button not rendering on AndroidHi, Thanks a lot for getting back to me and I’m sorry for the delay. I really appreciate it and thanks for actually giving me the alternate code. If I use that code then the words come before the button and they are not ‘lined up’. It doesn’t look very neat on the screen. Ideally I’d want them lining up on the same line or with a line break between them. Is it possible to have it looking visually neater at the same time as having the button working please? I’ve got the rest of my site exactly how I want it now. The only remaining job is getting the play button rendering reliably. Thanks again.

In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] Button not rendering on AndroidOh OK thanks. Maybe it came from one of the other players I trialed then. Is there any feedback from the developers about my issue please? The button is still intermittently disappearing. Thanks.

In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] Button not rendering on AndroidHi
Thanks for the update.
I just noticed if I go into Chrome and ‘inspect’ then choose ‘network’, the play button is the only item in red and if I click it I see this:
Request URL: https://mattscopyshop.com/image/round-play-button-black.png
Request Method: GET
Status Code: 404Plus a whole load of other info. It’s the only 404 item tho. Hope this helps.

In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] Button not rendering on AndroidThanks very much. As I say the issue with the mobile is intermittent and I can go a couple of days without it reproducing. So it could be tricky for someone to replicate. Hopefully they will come up with something tho. Cheers.

In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] Button not rendering on AndroidHi,
The button just failed to render on my mobile despite me not reactivating Autoptimize. I think this eliminates Autoptimize as the cause. Do you have any other ideas please? Your plugin is so much more attractive for what I need it for than any of the alternatives I found. I would love to be able to get it to work consistently.
Thanks
What other plugin did you try Barefoot?

In reply to: [Compact WP Audio Player] Button not rendering on AndroidHi, Yes I deleted the browser cache. My phone is a Huawei and I have the latest appropriate version of EMUI installed. The problem has not reappeared since I disabled Autoptimize as suggested. I think I need to give it a week total before I can say the issue has gone. Frank’s question is an interesting one tho. It would be nice to be able to use both apps together if poss. Maybe deactivating Autoptimize and the problem vanishing were just a coincidence. But if so I have no idea what fixed it!
