In reply to: Permalinks trouble after installing multisiteJust to be clear: this was a site before I went multisite. domain/blog resolves to the front page of this blog. Default permalinks don’t go another folder level up. So why should other forms of permalinks?

In reply to: Permalinks trouble after installing multisiteThanks for the info.
Can’t say it makes sense.
I don’t see how there could be a conflict, since the others would have /blog/members/ and /blog/news/ in the permalink. And anyway, the default doesn’t have /blog/blog/, it just has /blog/?p=123, so if there were going to be a conflict with the pretty links, there would be a conflict there much more easily (numbers get duplicated a lot more readily than post names).
But if this is the case, I have to make a decision between two forms of ugly. :\

In reply to: Not available on my Dashboard?Andrea_r – Thanks. I had looked through that page a couple times earlier, but hadn’t been struck by that. Easy enough. ??
Ipstenu: Thanks… I can’t use parallel subdirectories, either can I?
E.g. install in /blog/
Other site in /news/Forum: Networking WordPress
In reply to: Not available on my Dashboard?Never mind. I think it’s because I didn’t install in the root directory.
Is it difficult to install in the root without taking over the index page with WordPress?

In reply to: Best approach to two "blog" foldersThanks. I don’t think that separate databases are necessary or desirable.

In reply to: Best approach to two "blog" foldersWell, that’s not really the question. The issue that I was hoping to have three folders with WP in parallel, but not in the root directory. From what I’m seeing, the only way to accomplish that would be to rewrite the URLs somehow… I surely don’t want three installs of WP on one site if I can help it.

In reply to: Best approach to two "blog" foldersHm, I’m not sure that’s what I’m looking for.
The root folder of my site is not intended to be WordPress (although I’ll do something custom on the home page to get latest news posts showing in a small column). WordPress is primarily intended to be in 3 folders: /members/ , /blog/ , and /news/ . /members/ will use the pages function and require signin to view; the other two are essentially blogs.
