In reply to: .htaccessI’ll try the uploading a blank file idea first. Will I need to add anything to it once it is up?

In reply to: .htaccess problemOK. I took some time off to get some dinner, and came back. Now I looked in my files using FTP and I have no .htaccess file. Why wouldn’t I, but more importantly, how do I fix it?

In reply to: Idiot boy returnsI am enjoying playing with the software, but it’s making me crazy. I have added the following to the structure:
/%year%/%post_id%/%postname%/
The stucture has changed accordingly and shows up when my cursor is on the link, but clicking on the link pulls up a 404. Since you, Podz, are more familiar with my setup than anyone (including me) – reading through some of the codex it sounds like I may need to make some changes to my .htaccess file. Is that what my problem is?

In reply to: Building a better idiotOK, the old ctrl-f5 worked like a charm. Thanks again, Podz. I am so frustrated. Despite the evidence to the contrary, I’m not an idiot. However, everything with WP so far has been a painful, uphill battle.
I think that I am going to go enjoy the beautiful day here now. I’ll be back with more stupid questions soon.

In reply to: 5 Minute Install: Day 3Spoke to soon: I am having an ongoing problem with the install.php. In short, I can’t get it to open correctly in my browser to complete the installation. When I go to the URL https://babygotbooks.com/wp-admin/install.php I have to choose to have firefox open the PHP file, which then apparently downloads to my C: drive (see screenshot in dawgs post above) and there is lots of gibberish on the page in addition to the text. What is going on?

In reply to: 5 Minute Install: Day 3Dawg – Thanks for the tip. That worked. I am sure that I will be back to these support pages soon. Thanks for staying with me.

In reply to: 5 Minute Install: Day 3Rats. OK, so my problem then is this, how do I get install.php to open in my browser (not text editor) so that I can complete installation.

In reply to: 5 Minute Install: Day 3Sorry for the confusion. I have an existing blog, which you have a screen capture of. I edit it and post from Blogger. I am now trying to install WP, import my Blogger blog over to WP, and get rolling. I have not been able to follow the install.php text to complete the installation of WP, so I have not seen any kind of WP control panel that alerts me that I have been successful.

In reply to: 5 Minute Install: Day 3OK, cookies have been cleared out, and if Dawg is correct, my WP is installed and I am ready to go. So now my really stupid question… How do I start using WP? What next?
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: 5 Minute Install: Day 3ok, so my files are in the right place, and everything is labelled properly. Still, when I try to go to install, install.php opens in my text editor, not my browser. So I am unable to follow the install script to complete the process. I feel like I am very close.

In reply to: 5 Minute Install: Day 3Well, the post I was responding too went away, but it said that WP was already installed.
