Well damn! Why didn’t I try that. I tried every possible entry in the host field EXCEPT localhost. That was prepopulated…. but greyed out so I …. hell I don’t know what I thought. But now that I have actually typed in “localhost”…. it went smoothly.

You are a lifesaver V. Baxter THANK YOU very much.

OK, I went through all the tutorials and documents and thanks to the video I found that I had not given the database user the authorizations needed. Once I did that and tried the Test Connection I got Success in both elements..

    Server Connected: Success
    Database Found: Success

However, that was with localhost as the host. Once I changed that to either the url of the site (www.xxxx.xx) or to the actual IP address (which is what HostGator recommends) I get a failure.

The Test Connection no longer gives Success (Fail & Fail) but equally as troubling is that when I run Deployment I get back this message:

    server code: 200
    status: OK
    response:
    INSTALL ERROR!
    DATABASE CONNECTION FAILED!
Access denied for user ‘amerdent_susanyu’@’192.185.147.153’ (using password: YES)

What is really strange is that the IP Address I typed in ended in 156 (I checked it several times) and yet the error comes back with 153… ODD at best.

    More suggestions??

    Thanks for the assist.

I’m also having problems getting the Installer to run.

The message I get is as follows:
    ———————
    server code: 200
    status: OK
    response:
    INSTALL ERROR!
    DATABASE CONNECTION FAILED!
Access denied for user ‘susanyu’@’192.185.147.153’ (using password: YES)
    ——————–

I think where I am getting confused is the “host” field. I assume that is the name of the site (americandentistry.com) but maybe not. I even tried the address of 192.185.147.153 but that did not work either.

    I’m stumped!

I just used WP Clone, for the second time ever. The first time, several weeks ago it went smoothly, no problems.

Today when I tried it, I got the dreaded “MySQL server has gone away” … so I tried it a second time, without changing anything and this time it “appears” to have worked successfully.

My reason for saying “appears” is that it did not give me an html message or any completion message for that matter… but it did create two files on my server. One called pclzip-522e02ddd6374.gz and a second one called wpclone_backup_09th_Sep_2013_05-17PM_Pal_iZOb3N8Wth.zip. I don’t recall it having created two files two weeks ago.

By the way, I did use the “Advanced Settings” and checked the “Alternate Zip Method”.

Can someone at WP Academy tell me why the second file.. and a guess as to whether the one or two files are actually valid?

    Thanks

Sorry for the post.. I eventually worked out the solution.

With a large backup such as this you need to go to the “Advanced Settings” link and then check the “Alternate Zip Method“. Once you do that (at least it worked for me) the restore goes fine..

Thanks for WP Clone by WP… it’s a great plugin!

I had that same problem “webdevelopment” but later found out that I had run out of disk space on the server. Once I increased the space, then this App was able to save the file.

The message that it had been saved is erroneous as it never really saved.. it tried, but due to the lack of space, it failed.

    Found it!

    It’s in the JetPack plugin.

Have tried that and I can get to the XAMPP screen that way.. but not to WordPress… very odd.

I have sent you a private message through your site and hope to hear from you there.

Quite possibly… but would that be the cause of me not being able to access localhost/wordpress??

Yep, I very carefully changed the links and paths before importing the database.

I’ll read through your link and see if I can come up with any other ideas… I appreciate it.

Solved my own problem.. I had an item in the right hand column that was 40 pixels too wide.. and was causing the column to drop to the bottom of the page

    Thanks

DivaMaggie… did you ever get this resolved? I am having the same problems, also had Install4Free do an install… and still – WSOD – White Screen of Death.

Very frustrating to say the least!

OK, I’ve taken Michael’s (above) advice and suggestion and backed up my server side database using php admin.

Rather than try to reinstall everything myself I have gone to the install4free.wordpress.net and asked for help.

In addition to solving the problems noted in the above comments, I also hope that Install4Free can put my WP 2.5.1 into the root versus the /wordpress/ directory.

    I’m a waitin’ and a hopin’

    Thanks Michael…

Yes, I have deactivated all my plugins and widgets… and no difference. Still not seeing the posts (which HAVE been published.

As to backup and re-installs.. I’ll give it a try as that appears to be the next logical step.

Thanks Moshu… you came up with the solution just a bit before my server did.

I spoke to them and they advised that the server I was on was not capable of handling 2.2.1 Their solution is to switch me to a different server in their “farm”.

Before I do that I will look at downloading 2.0 and seeing if I can get the blog to run with that. If so, then it will surely confirm the 2.2.1 issue and I can make a decision as to whether to have them switch me to another server.

Can you advise (in general terms) what I get or lose… by being on 2.0 versus 2.2? Remember, I am not all that tech savy so just some simple layman’s explanation please.

Thanks (everyone here) for all the support and help.

    Tom
