So, Toast.net moved my site to a different server that has the proper MySQL version. Voila! The WordPress blog finished updating all by itself!

Oh no! Then it immediately started generating spam from an unknown (to me) email: [email protected]

Upgrading to WP 3.1 did not help. So after several days and no solution to the problem, they have moved me back to the old server and now I’m back at the old WP version and a stuck-in-the-middle-of-upgrading blog.

Is there any remedy for this rogue email address? Is it because of WordPress? I’d like to be able to tell them something that will get me back onto the upgraded server.

    Thanks, kmessinger!

Yep. I looked all over for the MySQL version before emailing them. Couldn’t find.

Thanks for the link. It justifies the uncomfortable feeling I had in the pit of my stomach–I thought it might come to a manual installation of the old version. Hoped I would never have to do that again.

I’ll post again after trying this or a miracle happening, whichever comes first.

    Thanks again.

According the message, my webhost, Toast.net, is running 4.0.27. I have written to them to confirm this, but haven’t heard back yet.
