In reply to: Can someone help with simple question? Please please!I am a newbie – definitely not one of the smartest. And I am not sure I really understand you question.
But – if you are wanting your site to open with your page id=123 I think I tell you how to do that. I changed the page my site opens with this way.
Use your phpMyAdmin – in your database go into wp-options. Find the option name – “page-on-front”. Simply edit this record and change the option value to your “123” – but remember what is there so you can put it back if this doesn’t work – save it and it should work – it worked for me.

In reply to: newbie question – updates to page not displayingNot exactly sure what I really did to fix it. The last thing I did was go into the database and realized that even though the page showed the updates in the WP page update screen in the actual database it did not. So I manually added my changes to the record in the database.

In reply to: newbie question – updates to page not displayingOK – I have found something else out. I have determined that if I use a default theme the correct or updated page is displayed. But going back to my modified theme it still shows the old version. How can this be?

In reply to: Permalinks apparently cause site failureThis is exactly the same problem I am having. I have done what is suggested several times and it did not fix my problem. Any other ideas.

In reply to: Permalinks – asking wrong questionsI have read all those articles. I have done what they say to do – numerous times. The best I get is the first level links work – say I get waltdisneyworld.eguidesintl.com/magic-kingdom to work but then any lower level links – like say waltdisneyworld.eguidesintl.com/magic-kingdom/main-street get 404 errors.
I have been through the documentation and these forums. I get conflicting and confusing information. I believe most of what I am reading is for dynamic not static sites. Does that even make a difference? I read one post I know that said it did.

In reply to: Problem with Permalinks – I don’t understand what is happening“Common settings” – I am checking the “Custom Structure” button and putting “/%category%/%postname%/ in the field
I am leaving the “Category base” and “Tag base” blank

In reply to: Problem with Permalinks – I don’t understand what is happeningOK – I put the default info back in the backup-db folder – changed mod settings to 666 and changed it again. This time I verified the successful permalink change message at the top of the screen. But I checked both .htaccess files and this time neither one was changed. They both still had the default info in them.
However something has changed. My site is https://waltdisneyworld.eguidesintl.com/ – before every time I set the pretty permalinks only the home page worked – none of the secondary pages could be found. Now the secondary pages are found but nothing further. But it is at least putting the correct IP address in the address bar – just not finding pages.

In reply to: Problem with Permalinks – I don’t understand what is happeningThat is what the documentation I have been following says. And I have an .htaccess file in the same folder as my wp-config.php file. But that file is not getting updated and I am not getting any messages saying WP can’t update it. Like I said – what I read is not what I see happening and I don’t know why.
I would like to just manually load the .htaccess file but I don’t know what to put in it. I was hoping someone could give me that information.

In reply to: Help…can’t access my admin anymoreI am a newbie so I am just guessing. But it looks to me like you have a problem with a plug-in. Since you can’t get into your admin to turn them off try renaming the plug-in folder and see if you get your admin back.

In reply to: Log In password not workingI told you I went through the same thing – email passwords didn’t work – couldn’t make since out of other instructions – but the phpMyAdmin process is very easy. Just don’t forget the MD5 parm.

In reply to: Changed Permalinks and site is gone!Did you say you can not even view your pages through the admin screen? I would check the database. It sounds like you crashed it. If so try a repair or restore.

In reply to: Log In password not workingI had this same issue just a couple weeks ago – if you haven’t figured it out yet use the ‘Through phpMyAdmin’ instructions. I found them to be the easiest. And don’t forget to set MD5 setting.

In reply to: couple newbe questionsIs this something like what you want to build – https://waltdisneyworld.eguidesintl.com/ – that is all WP.
I wish I could tell you how but I didn’t actually create it. I just inherited it from someone else who is a lot smarter then me when it comes to WP. But I am slowly figuring things out. If you have any specific questions if I know the answer I’ll be glad to help you out.
