At first, we would like to request you to check the Setting > Media and change the thumbnail size once. Or, edit the image on the editor and change the size of the image from thumbnail to large.

If you are choosing Static Front Page, then the boxes will not enabled. If you have latest posts, then you need to enable and select the category to get displayed. And please make sure you have featured image on the posts.

As we said that the color options for links, menus, etc are under the premium version. So, we recommend you to go with the premium version because theme customization is needed if you want to do that with the free version.
