Thanks for your assistance. I added the code you suggested to my styles.css file but it made no difference. The Text still overlays the image.

Frankly I am surprised that the default setting for this theme is to have the text overlaying the image – it looks awful. Given the number of users trying to do exactly what I am trying to do it is somewhat surprising that there is not an singly button option to remove this effect.

What do you suggest?

As you can see, it is ridiculous to have the page header overlay this image. In fact, I don’t want this result on ANY PAGE on this website.

Just Ard, you say “In your Dashboard, Appearance > Customize, then choose Twenty Fourteen Content Options – Where it says: Enter 1 or more for padding to move content off featured image (numbers only) – Default is -48”

BUT

I can’t find anything remotely similar to these options you specify.
Where can I find them?
