In reply to: Unable to update installDone, and I’ve disabled plugins. The frontend works fine, I just can’t get to the backend anything.
Initially, I get the prompt to upgrade my database, but it isn’t styled, so it seems there’s a stylesheet in the other folders it can’t get to. Here’s what I see.
Furthermore, after this, I see this everywhere. Again, frontend is fine. Backend, not so much.

In reply to: Unable to update installOkay, so it seems we’re miscommunicating. As of right now, I want to fix the update notification on 3.9.6.
As for both tips, I’ve tried both from earlier when I tried to upgrade and it failed. I have since reverted back to 3.9.6, and I’m working with it instead.
The issue I’m having here is that on any page other than https://techgeek01.com/wp-admin/update-core.php, it doesn’t show a notification for the core update. When I get there, though, I see a notification in my admin bar, and it asks me to update (while editing my posts today, I also managed to have it randomly show me the notification and update prompt for the core update on edit.php, though only for like 5 minutes).
When I try to update, it doesn’t actually update anything. Clicking the button that takes me to https://techgeek01.com/wp-admin/update-core.php?action=do-core-upgrade simply loads a blank page as seen [here](https://www.dropbox.com/s/8wb1xq775cu7raf/Screenshot%202015-05-15%2017.30.29.png?dl=0) with no content other than the sidebar and admin bar. This is the issue I’m currently trying to resolve, and, if it matters, when I originally tried to upgrade manually, that lack of update notifications persisted from a failed upgrade to 4.2.2 and back down to 3.9.6, so it’s not affected by anything in the wp-admin or wp-includes folders.

In reply to: Unable to update installStill nothing. No notification, and https://techgeek01.com/wp-admin/update-core.php?action=do-core-upgrade still has no content other than the admin bar and sidebar.

In reply to: Unable to update installHey James,
I had another problem with this update. It originally caused me to manually update, and that actually locked me out of my admin panel and Firefox threw a “this page is not redirecting properly” error at me.
Anyway, as a result of that, I had to manually downgrade back, and restore a database backup, so essentially, I’m still on 3.9.6, but I have fresh files.
Any other ideas?
flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.
Yup, as well as a Ctrl + F5.
deactivating all plugins
Tried that, too.
switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme
I don’t use twenty fifteen, and so it’s not installed. I’m still on twenty twelve. Is there a download I can manually add in through FTP?
manually upgrading.
That’s what caused the issue to begin with, though I can try again after the plugin disable.
