I am sorry, as I waited for a response I continued to google and found an answer which is why you see the blog now. My apologies, I can be a little impatient!
The answer that I found was this:
Make a new page and call it “Blog”, then go into the “reading” menu and under “posts page” select the new page you just created. This is assuming that you have “static page” for your home page.

Worked like a charm, but thank you so much for responding. Always tricky taking over something that someone else created and they do not seem to respond to questions about what they did….lol

I reinstalled the manual way and all is well, thanks! I did use the softaculous on another site and it worked fine, so must have been just a glitch…..cheers Jan
