I’m not sure how you reason that an “ugly” permalink is “the same as not using permalinks.” By definition a permalink is a URL that points to a specific blog entry and remains unchanged indefinitely.

I understand that “pretty” may be better in some people’s eyes, but there really is no arguing that an “ugly” permalink isn’t still a permalink by definition.

I appreciate that you are trying to help, but my site is using permalinks. They are just “ugly” permalinks . . . see the article that you referred me to:

There are three basic types of WordPress permalinks:
Default: “Ugly”
The default looks like
https://example.com/?p=N
where N is the Post ID number. It works on all server environments, but it doesn’t look as nice as some of the other options.

For whatever reason, that works! I wish I understood why, but I don’t. My site says that I have permalinks turned on for posts. Do I have to do it separately for Categories?
