Of course, two seconds after posting this my host figured it out. (I bungled something in .htaccess, naturally.)

Fantastic! Though now I feel dumb – thought I’d already tried Manageable… But I’ll throw it in for the meantime.

Thanks, but that’s not going to work. The name changes are too varied – they actually overlap in places – for something like that. Maybe I phrased it wrong…

For instance, in March 2005, Poster A’s name will be on Poster B’s posts, and Poster F’s name on Poster E’s posts. In December 2005, B’s name will be on E’s posts, and F’s name on A’s posts. And so forth – we have at least two dozen authors in the system, though only a handful post regularly, and each import spawned a whole new set of mixed-up attributions. Which is why I’m looking for something that will let me change author names manually in a batch.

It’s been so long since I configured the original MT setup I forgot it even included an excerpt option… Anyway, it’s a return character. I wonder if it’s safe to just remove that from the import files entirely, as we never used it…

I’m not quite sure where/how to edit the database, but I did swap out the_excerpt() with the_content(), at least for the moment. And I know what to look for in those other themes. Thanks!
