Kinda makes sense to me. However, there is one thing that is not clear in the instructions. The instructions say to:

    Download files
    Backup database
    Change URLs
    Download files again
    Backup database again

Then when it says “upload the files”, it doesn’t say if I use the first one’s I downloaded, or the second ones. It’s very confusing.

I wish I could just backup the older WP files. Configure the new database with what I need…then upload the files.

    I fixed it…thanks.

You don’t see on up in the beside the website name in the browser tab?

    I use Chrome…here’s a screenshot of what I’m seeing.

OK…so forget that I have a commercial theme. Let’s talk Favicons. Why might this be happening? Where should I look?

I can’t even find a favicon file when I use FTP to look at my site’s file.

    Let’s troubleshoot a bit…do some brainstorming.

I’m not asking you to support my theme…just my issue with favicons.

I’m going to mess around with it later – disable plugins, change theme, etc, etc. I’ll see if that works.

Here’s what is strange. I have 2 existing roles (currently Author) that show up in the drop-down menu. However, they were originally Admin roles. I changed them after a while. They still show up even after I changed their roles.

    Sigh…I’ll pick away at it.

OK…just tried creating a new Author and Contributor, but it doesn’t work.

Do you think there is a general setting that says nobody less than Admin can create a post? Just wondering…

Oh…and I tried going to create a new role as you described above, but I can only create a new User, not a new Role.

    (@tbakerhr)

OK…I created the new user as an Admin and it worked. However, I’d rather not make them an Admin. I’ll have to work around that problem later. At least I can post on their behalf now.

    Cheers.

I can’t create any new roles without a plugin, can I?

Do you think that I have to login as the new user to be able to post as that person?

    Thread Starter TBakerHR

    (@tbakerhr)

I’m not using any plugin anymore. I removed it.

But I still can’t get a new user to show up in the drop down list. This is very frustrating.

Well…I’m at a loss. I’ve set up a new user as an Author, but it doesn’t show up in the drop-down menu as an “author” of the post. I have myself (amdmin privileges) and 2 others that are Authors. The 3 of us show up in the drop-down, but the new guy doesn’t.

This is very frustrating. I’m hoping that I’m just missing something obvious.

OK…perhaps I didn’t explain this correctly. Here’s what a friend of mine does on his site…I want to do this:

“I manually setup an account for anyone that will have a guest blog post on there. I set them up as Contributors. The main difference between Authors and Contributors is the publishing capability. Contributors can actually log onto the site and manually enter their posts, but they can’t publish them. Authors can do everything the Contributors can, but they also have the ability to publish. I’d rather manage that piece myself.”

    How do I do this?

    (@tbakerhr)

I just tried giving them the Author role. That doesn’t work either. However, I have two others that I made Authors quite a while ago and they show up in the list.

Do I have to wait a little while for WordPress to process this?

    (@tbakerhr)

Which privilege(s) will ensure they show up in the Author’s list? I don’t want to give them all the privileges or I could just give them the AUTHOR role, and that’s not the point.

    (@tbakerhr)

I already understand the roles and their capabilities, that wasn’t my question.

If people are saying that I can set someone up as a CONTRIBUTOR to have their name on the post, how do I get their name to show up in the drop down list as “author” when creating the post?

Perhaps I need to change the “responsibilities” of CONTRIBUTOR so that they show up in the Author list?

    Thread Starter TBakerHR

    (@tbakerhr)

OK…I understand what you’re saying. A friend recommended that I set them up as a “Contributor’, and as you said just never give them the login information.

However, when I do that the new “User” doesn’t show up in the drop down list of authors when I’m doing the post.

    Thoughts?
