    Okay, so I think the problem is related to when I first install WP and or import an export file. When you get to the section after you submit the file to assign authors, you have a field for all the users already on the blog. For example;

    1. Import author: Test (Test)
    or create new user with login name: {empty field}
    or assign posts to an existing user: {drop down menu to select users}

    So no matter what I do or what option I go for, I’m still not able to do what I did before, which was to go into any post and have the option to change \ edit the author of that post. I talked with my host’s tech support and the only thing that can be done is to just create another user and log into that user and create the post that way.

    However with one of my sites I have multiple users that contributed to posts and they all say admin. So is the only option to recreate each post under their UN and never have the ability to edit?

    Please say that isn’t so! Or at the least, there’s a plugin for this issue.

    @egf – Wanted to thank you instead of leaving the thread hanging, it ended up being issues with one of the hosts I was using… Sadly it was more than one. Either way that fixed it so I’ll close this thread… Thanks again for the help!

    Okay so yeah, here’s me giving thanks that after much time, and work, I did things the long \ hard way. Surprising as that may seem, a lot of that had to do with the new host I was attempting to go to, so I went back to a old \ new one.

    Anyway with all that said, instead of creating a new thread hopefully this is still on a few radars that I can get some help with backups. What is the best way to backup everything? I have issues again \ something crashes or gets deleted, how can I ensure in the best way that I won’t lose anything and or that reinstalling \ recreating will go as smoothly as possible?

    First a WP export, basic. Second, the media from the library, by keeping them backed up and organize. Third, a Evolve settings backup. Fourth fifth and sixth?
    Again, your time is appreciated!

    Lisa hi… No I haven’t, and I had to smile because it sounds somewhat complicated as opposed to how it was before. Before it was just there, I would create a new user, assign roles, and bam, it’d be there.

    Can’t imagine it’s because I’m with a new host though. Either way thank for the help, as I hope there’s a guide to what you’re suggesting, as I’m techy but clearly have my limits!

    @egf – Interesting, but in looking into my file manager, I had to dig a little to get into the plugin folder to begin with. I noticed there are not two separate folders for each site, and a different sub for the plugins as well. Either way I’m wondering if a refresh \ factory reset will fix this, but really want to be sure before I start from scratch with limited backups.

    @egf – Hey thanks for the help. Thing is, can’t find the frickin plugins folder to begin with in my host’s file manager… But tell me this, does your solution still apply, as I’m still able to install plugins in my one site but not the other.

    @donnawpadmin – Hey NP, I live in Jersey and it feels like we’re entering Summer and not starting the fall! But I know it can be frustrating, as I’m on both ends of the IT spectrum if you can imagine, helping and being helped. So I know it can be a bit stressful when you make multiple suggestions and everyone is knocked down. Just the same, because XYorZ isn’t in someone’s wheelhouse, when they attempt to follow the suggestions and have problems for any number of reasons, that sucks too! (Essentially a no win)

    With allll that said, yes, I will definitely try those plugins, even the paid ones! And trust me, as much as I want to do this only once, it’ll probably have to be done again. I’ve already referred to the previous posts where you and @romik84 had helped me already.

    And no I know, that’s the thing, I really have to lock down and use these tools, because I HATE the feeling that I’m the only one going through this! Clearly I’m not, and there are paths through it. And my guy is a long time friend, who is a good bit techy and works in the field, but doesn’t necessarily work on this aspect alot. And lol, yes I am nice, (modest as well) but it doesn’t always come off genuine, when I really just have an ‘is what it is’ approach to things and don’t like the alternative to positive energy. (Who really does though?)

    Either way finger crossed!

    @abigailm – Hey, awesome! As it’s pushing 2:30 my time I’m not going to delve into your suggestion but coupled with everything else, I’d like to think I could do this alone let alone succeed with my IT guy… Keep y’all posted!

    @donnawpadmin – Yep, this I am aware, hence me having the login issues, real pain let me tell you, LOL! And cool, honestly didn’t know the backups I had already were crap, but that you drove that point home with all the subtly of a a dump truck driving through a nitroglycerin plant, now I know:)

    Anyway look, you’re trying to help and know that I appreciate it, and I do have an IT guy who helps me with all this, but he’s learning as well. Now to the task of learning how to back up the database and go from there; praying my black thumb of tech doesn’t impede me further!

    @romik84 hi, just saw your post, sorry for the confusion!

    (@tav1421)

    Okay so, great stuff! First yes, I did back up everything that I could think of… Evolve settings, WP content, as well as the media. The major issue preventing me from really being able to implement your suggestions is that I can access both WP’s at the same time.

    With two WP’s, one on the old host and one with the new, I have to keep changing nameservers to access the WP for either one. Naturally that’s led to other issues, most notably being able to login to begin with.

    Let me ask you this; is there a way to backup \ transfer the media library with the dates of each file’s upload intact? (If I’m even asking the right question:)

    Thread Starter tav1421

    (@tav1421)

    Okay great, thanks for the help! As it is, the URLs are exactly the same… But you are right, I just did a bulk upload in one big folder, no separation between dates. Now I did this for a couple sites, and noticed the October pics are fine, but everything else before, not so much.

    But, and of course there’s a but, I didn’t find an option to create folders within the media library. I even tried a plugin but it won’t let me have a space between September 2017. So as always, any thoughts \ tips would be great! Appreciate your time.

    Okay sounds good, I’ll wrap this one up then; and good to know that don’t mind me starting a new one even for something minor… Thanks again!

    Worked like a charm! Really kind of getting embarrassed at this point! But with all these settings issues and transferring, and everything else surrounding building and rebuilding and backing up a site, well, you can imagine it’s easy to overlook something! (Love me some face saving!)

    Either way I definitely appreciate the help from you guys! (And I’ll keep this thread saved so I don’t have to make another one:)

    @donna – Sounds good, and yes, believe it or not I’m the IT guy for my family and some friends and it can be tough in gauging what problem they have and how bad. For me it seems if it’s too simple or too complicated, I have trouble, so I always look for that sweet spot!

    But yes, I haven’t fully investigated the Redux yet but seems like a great plugin! I followed your instructions @romik84 and had better luck but, and of course there’s a but, I can’t the setup quite right… I usually have four rows of three posts, but with the transfer I only have three rows of three posts and then a single post on the next level.

    Wow my bad, I didn’t mean that to come off snarky if it did. I meant that in working with two hosting companies and my IT guy, I didn’t want to get further bogged down into everything if I could help it.

    And yep, I definitely know that but ignored it at my own peril! (Truth be told in learning about all this I had it on my list to look into the redux frame.) Either way my apologies for not being clearer and or if I came off pissy, totally not my intentions.
