In reply to: Why is FTP necessary when…I don’t need MAMP or WAMP either. I’m running actually running LAMP on a separate machine (Actually a VM) to which I have full control over. I have samba shares, I’ve got a shell, I’ve got physical access to the machine to do what I want with. As you said, my setup isn’t typical for most people as they outsource their hosting.

Hmm I don’t really know Linux but I would check your wpconfig file to make sure that the FTP information is entered correctly. It may be in the Database wrong somewhere too but I would think that would prevent everything from working if it were true. If you have your LAMP setup working correctly, I don’t think you need FTP. At least you don’t when installing plugins and uploading files (like images) to your posts when using MAMP.Forum: Themes and Templates

In reply to: Remove link?Hard to say without being able to see the site you’re referring to. Maybe:
#pagenav {display:none;}
Put it here:You can copy a style from this file and paste it in custom.css and it will override the style in this file.

In reply to: Why is FTP necessary when…You got a sarcastic response because in order to install WordPress to a server you (to put it simply) need to use an FTP client that connects to an FTP server running on your machine (which is usually housed in a datacenter). If you want to run a local copy of WordPress, use mamp ( https://www.mamp.info/en/index.html ). That way the actual folders and files in them, when saved, will be processed by a browser pointed at localhost as if you had uploaded them with an FTP client to a remote server.

In reply to: New YouTube Embed Code Disappearing?!@jamal Mohamed
That’s what I’d heard too the whole thing seems like a bit of a mess though, I’m going to wait it out and am using Justin.TV embed codes now that seem to work just fine in iPhone.
(This is one of those things that I think will take time to come about but isn’t totally here yet).

In reply to: Doubts when building a full siteSearch through the WordPress theme tab and google to find a theme that looks like it can do the basics of what you want and then customize it. Sounds like you can do pretty much everything you need to with CSS.

In reply to: [Plugin: EasySMS] Issue with Post NotificationsIs this happening whenever you make just a WordPress post (meaning not an EasySMS “post”) Is this happening with or without automatically SMS whenever a new post is made?
I’m just trying to figure out if this Plugin is salvageable in it’s current form just as a way to manually post out updates. Is this issue just that you have to back out of the PHP error page whenever making new posts to your blog through WordPress each time?
It looks like support for this plugin has been discontinued by the developer.
On his contact page he says that he is not continuing it because of lack of financial support and invites someone to take it over.
Maybe some donations would get an update…not sure how you donate though…

In reply to: New YouTube Embed Code Disappearing?!@w2aiq WordPress simply does not support iframes, that is why this does not work.
If you are just putting up YouTube and other videos you can just use the “old” embed code, which is available as an option on the YouTube embed menu.
Of course I haven’t really had the time to zone in on it so I don’t really know what benefits the iFrame gives you for the type of videos that you’ll be using. From what I’ve read they seem to offer the capability to change the type of video to better suit mobile browsing, however I have confirmed that older style embed codes are indeed visible on most platforms if their core services support them. For the moment I’m using Justin.TV so this is not really an issue for me.

In reply to: Garance Dore themeOk… if I were to purchase a css, similar to this, where could I look. Any recommendations?
That is the big question! If I find anything will post here, let me know if you do either!
Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Garance Dore themeince the site you referenced isn’t a WP site, it isn’t really feasible to expect forum volunteers to try running searches to find a theme that matches your specifications when you have access to exactly the same search tools as we do.
Actually I think it *is* a .ORG wp site but heavily customized.
Not that that means OP should expect you to hunt down the theme (lol) but I think the question is somewhat valid.
