In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015Done! And – ring out bells and sound the trumpets – it seems to be working. Hooray! Hooray! And once again Hooray!
Thank you so much for all your help and patience. And I really hope I never have to add to this thread again. May it be useful to others!

In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015Oh, hooray! When I did that, and tried to upload a new image, it actually worked!
Oh my lord, that was epic. Ok. So what do I need to do to sort out the images that aren’t where they should be? Just move them from one folder to another?

In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015A thought – I logged back into the Cpanel, and the new image had been added to the wrong folder. Checking my media settings, it has the setting “Store media uploads in: /home/takahe/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/uploads”
This is wrong, isn’t it? And why I have an extra folder in there? So if I change the path and delete /wordpress from the above, it shoud sort itself out, yes?

Still not working.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015Login to your site and go to Settings > Media and under “Uploading Files” is the “Organise my uploads into month- and year-based folders” checked.
If you know this to be correct already, just tell me so.Yes, it is.

In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015See previous comment about confusion, and add the sound of a forehead being slapped. (For some reason we seem to be perfectly synchronised, typing responses to each other simultaneously.)
“Organise my uploads into month- and year-based folders” is currently checked. (I just checked again, to be absolutely certain.)

In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015Sorry – the crossing posts are confusing me.
I can’t get it to let me change the numbers by clicking on the key icon. The cursor turns into a circle with a line though it. However I can change the numbers by just clicking on them and typing in a new set of numbers (same as changing the name of a file, but in the permissions column).
I’ve tried doing that with the wp-content > uploads folder, but it doesn’t do anything different.

In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015Ok, in the wp-content folder, everything has the permission 0755 except for index.php which is 0644.
When I open wp-content, it says everything inside is permissions 0755. But there isn’t a folder for 2016, and there should be … I think?
Going back a level, there is a folder inside public-html labeled wordpress. Inside it is another folder labeled wp-content. Inside it is another uploads folder, with permissions set to 0750. Inside that is a folder marked 12. It has two folders inside it, labeled 2015 and 2016. Inside the folder labeled 2015 are two pdf files and a doc file, with permissions 0640. Inside the 2016 folder is one labeld 01. And inside that are the fies that have been uploaded to the media page. Permissions set as 0640.
Is this the problem? It’s somehow created an extra folder and stashed recently uploaded stuff there, with the wrong permissions?

In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015Is it worth trying to change permissions? (Whatever the heck that means?)
Sorry, crossed-posting. Will try that.

In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015Do I need to get rid of the _MACOSX folder? Or empty the trash?

In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015Done. And after all that, still not working. I even tried uploading a new image. Still broken.

In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015And something a little weird – extracting the folders has created a new folder on that level called __MACOSX. Inside which are what look like duplicates of the wp-admin and wp-includes folders.

In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015Ok, turning wp-admin into a zip seems to have worked, and I’ve uploaded it. Presumably I need to delete the old files (wp-admin – already done – and wp-includes) before uploading the zipped versions?

In reply to: unable to upload images since late December 2015If it helps, FreeParking has something or other called Installatron that apparently is what I would need to use if I did a complete reinstall myself. Or do I need to do all the replacing at the level of the individual files?
