Automatic backups are now completing on the migrated account I mentioned in my last post (although I’m getting a warning, but I believe that is related to changing the server software versions).
However, I am still getting this error on another host. I, too, wonder why neither www.remarpro.com nor the author are addressing what is obviously a bug that is affecting a very important function for many people (a whole lot of whom probably don’t even realize that their sites are not being backed up). I just went to the plugin description page and clicked the “broken” button (right sidebar, near the bottom). Maybe if a few more people do this the problem will get some attention.
OK, thanks, that’s what I thought. I persisted in asking them to look into it, and it turned out to be the result of them using legacy MySQL drivers for my site instead of native drivers. They switched to the native drivers, and the warning is resolved.
One set of sites (under the same account) that were experiencing this problem were just migrated to a new server (the migration was already planned, had nothing to do with this issue). That seems to have resolved the “Missing or not expected HTTP response headers problem.”
Although I am now able to run backups, a different problem has recurred. When I was last able to run complete backups, they had this warning:
WARNING: mysqli::real_connect(): Headers and client library minor version mismatch. Headers:100020 Library:100106
My host had told me this would be resolved by the migration, but it wasn’t. It turned out to be related to my host using legacy MySql drivers, and was resolved by switching to the native drivers. This may be not be related to the “Missing or not expected HTTP response headers” problem, but I mention it in case it is helpful to someone else.
The other installation on which I encountered the “Missing or not expected HTTP response headers” problem is also scheduled to be migrated this week. The CPU allocation on the server where that installation is currently hosted is heavily restricted, and the server is running PHP and MySQL versions that are quite old. I will post again when the installation has been moved to a server that is a little closer to adequate for a WordPress installation, and update whether that resolved the problem.

In reply to: [BackWPup – WordPress Backup & Restore Plugin] Weekly Backup IssueCould it have to do with this setting: Disabled WP Cron On
You don’t want WP Cron disabled, do you, as that is what you are using for the backups? I’m sorry that I couldn’t figure out where that is set. Perhaps someone else can help you with that.
The page was definitely missing in action at the time I posted – if you visited the URL posted earlier in this thread, there was an “oops, nothing there” page, and the plugin did not come up in a repository search on the exact name. I suspect the page was put back up when the new version was released. However, the new version did not fix the problem for me. Here’s the error message I’m getting:
Missing or not expected HTTP response headers:
date: Sat, 27 Feb 2016 00:55:34 GMT
server: Apache/1.3.41 (Unix) mod_auth_pam/1.1.1 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/4.4.9
www-authenticate: Basic realm=”(removed)”
connection: close
content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1WordPress has now removed the page for this plugin from the WordPress repository. I’m sure that was intended to be helpful by keeping new users from downloading the plugin until it is fixed, but it also keeps those of us who installed the bad update from accessing the previous version, which has been reported to work by most people in this thread. May I suggest that instead of entirely removing the plugin from the repository, you restore it, and just remove the problematic update?
I’m also experiencing this error on two sites on two different hosts.

In reply to: [GeneratePress] Remove line break above read moreGot it. Guess the “before” in the selector should have clued me in to that. Thanks!

In reply to: [GeneratePress] Remove line break above read moreOh, OK – so the only purpose of the css was to add the indent, and I can delete it entirely and rely on the php alone if I don’t want that?

In reply to: [GeneratePress] Remove line break above read moreDoh! That’s what I get for pasting code without even reading it. That was the custom CSS as pasted from the thread you sent me the link to, BTW. If you send that link often, you may want to edit out the ‘margin-left: 10px;’ line. Thanks again – all good now ??

In reply to: [GeneratePress] Remove line break above read moreYes, the two spaces are before the read more tag, as on this page, where they cause an indent on a new line on the first post, and double spacing after a period when used inline on the second post.
I switched to Twenty Twelve, and the two spaces do seem to be theme-related. In Twenty Twelve, the tag was flush left on a new line, and had only the manually inserted single nbsp after the period when inserted inline.

In reply to: [GeneratePress] Remove line break above read moreI do have one more question. Is it possible to remove the two nbsps before the more tag? They are causing it to indent slightly when I put it on a new line. It also looks a little funny inline, when there is only a single space after all of my other periods. I would rather have no spacing built in to the tag, and just manually add however many is appropriate to the situation. I tried removing one of the two underscores before the tag in the php, but that just caused it to disappear altogether.

In reply to: [GeneratePress] Remove line break above read moreI was initially daunted by the php part of the edit, but using your simple php plugin to implement it turned out to be much easier than I expected.
This solution not only put the “Read more” tag inline as I wanted it, it allowed me to customize the tag itself, which was great.
MANY thanks for going to all that trouble to make php tweaking accessible to people who don’t know php! As ever, you are a stellar model of the WordPress spirit ??
BTW, the update to WordPress version 4.4.2 was released while I was dilly-dallying, and I’ve installed it, so this solution also works on 4.4.2.

In reply to: [UpdraftPlus: WP Backup & Migration Plugin] backups stalling outSeriously? You are denying me support because I want to protect my client’s security? Not cool.
Never mind, there are plenty of other backup plugins to choose from.

In reply to: [UpdraftPlus: WP Backup & Migration Plugin] backups stalling outI’d prefer not to post the link publicly, as it contains client paths and other info, and this client is just recovering from a hack. Can I send the link to you?
