  • That applies depending on the version. If it’s 1.2 or 1.2.2, then it’s in the index, but I think the div is called “menu”.

If it’s 1.5, then it’s in the wp-content/themes/whatever-theme-your-using, in a file called sidebar.php, and the div is called “sidebar”. In fact, the div is the entire contents of the file.

In either case, you’ll find a section for the calendar that needs to be uncommented to use.

Hey, Buffy. Yes, the pics on the front page were manually cropped in ps. I just placed a link to them in the excerpt field and styled the excerpts with css. Placing the link is made pretty easy with Exhibit.

Thanks for the comments. I’m thrilled to hear that it downloads well on dial-up.

I agree, that logo is a perfect candidate for the gif format. You could actually reduce it to 5 colors, or if you want to preserve crisp anti-aliasing, 8 colors may do it, though 10-16 might be safer. Do some tests; save some space. ??

Yes, this is a very clean look. The grays and browns are very soothing to the eye. I love it.

But making it liquid would be sweet. 3-column liquid is quite a challenge, but you can do it.

Thanks. Beautiful site, btw. I’m bookmarking it, so keep it updated often. ;-P

    Hey, that’s pretty darn cool.

Where did you get that plugin? I searched for it, but I guess I’m not using the right key words.

lol…well, the no-thumbs tag worked. I could swear I tried that before, but I must have been doing something wrong. And of course the exhibit-thumbs tag works. Thanks, RM.

@ 7milesdown: Thanks. And yes, I did create the template in Photoshop, but there was a little more involved than just putting the loop into it. My rule is, create your dream look in Photoshop, and don’t worry about how to make it happen in html. Figure that out later.

@ jalal: Good points, my friend. I think I may remove the top banner from any page but the front page. I don’t know; I’ll have to think about it.

@ joey: Thanks for the encouragement. I spent quite some time making the template graphics as small as I could, and even sacrificed some degree of crispness, figuring that most people aren’t going to get as close to the screen as I do. As for the photos themselves, I agree; I won’t make them any smaller than what Photoshop or Picasa decide is “high” quality, which is just a bit less than “maximum” quality, and usually does not make any visual difference in the crispness or integrity of the image.

@frenchie: I can’t replicate the problem your getting on any of my computers, and I have two PC’s and two Macintosh’s total at work and home, with five or six different browser types. Is this happening to anyone else? That’s a bit disturbing, and I’m sorry it doesn’t look right for you.

@juan: Thanks, man. ?? Are you talking about the main image at the top of the photography posts? That, along with the thumbs, are done with Exhibit. If you’re talking about the image at the very top, that changes randomly when the page is refreshed, and has the title over it…that’s just a floating layer with relative positioning and php random function to choose which image loads in it.

Also, whoever changed the name of this thread so that it isn’t in all caps: sorry about that. I didn’t put it in all caps to get attention; that’s just the way I write the name of my site. But I understand why you changed it.

    Cheers.

Yeah, I’d like to have this feature too. I was thinking about writing a plugin for it…but I’ve never written a plugin for WP, so who knows how that would go. ??

Well, I’m out of ideas. If you want to e-mail me some ftp info to access your files and some info to look at your database, I’ll see what I can do. My name is joey, and my website is speakbold.com . Put the two together and drop me an e-mail if want me to.

To be clear, the newest official version is 1.1d. RM made a version available, which he labeled “asy”, which my very well not work for most.

    Are you running 1.1d?

Did you save your post first? When you start a new post, you have to hit “save and continue editing” before you can see the Exhibit interface at the bottom of the post creation screen. After you hit that button, the page will refresh, and the Exhibit interface should appear at the bottom.

lol…Well, that’s pretty much the way I did it, TG. But my current site is so involved, and has so many custom aspects to it, that it eventually got to a point to where I was going to have to see my template integrated with my real site, because duplicating all the code and changing the hard-coded urls in the posts to get my db to work in another directory would be a real pain.

But the way 1.5 is set up, I can see it being real easy to do some background re-design while the live site is still running. But I sure didn’t see any way to do it as is.

Thanks for the input. And if anyone creates a style-switcher, be sure that you can control it with a variable in the URL. ??

Thanks a lot for the comments, sadish & dividespace. ??

I’m still wondering, does anyone agree or disagree with the design philosophy that I proposed in this post, i.e. the philosophy that I used when laying out my new theme?

    Ask Ringmaster.
