  • Here’s where I’m at now…

I tried WP Pipes and it’s pretty slick. It does a lot of cool things once you figure it out. My problem with it is that it can’t create posts using “custom-post-types”. I absolutely have to use custom-post-types or my search feature won’t work properly.

So I broke down and purchased WP RSS Aggregator. I had some buyer’s remorse at first. I realized that there were a few features that I thought were there but were not.

The good news…I received excellent support from the guys at RSS Aggregator and they gave me a few snippets of code that added the missing features I needed. Also, I found several new features in it that turned out to be very useful.

I agree though, WP RSS Multi Importer has money written all over it. I would have paid for it in a heartbeat. It’s always good to have competition too.

    In Summary…
    WP Pipes –
Works good once you figure it out.
    No custom-post-type support
Not sure how well it handles a large number of feeds (I only tested one)
    WP RSS Aggregator –
    Expensive
    Excellent support (In my opinion)
Has some features that Multi Importer didn’t
The only real alternative to RSS Multi Importer
    WP RSS Multi Importer
    R.I.P

Good luck to everyone in your search!

    Great news Bjorn!!!

I know…That would be great! How about it Allen? Throw us a bone and let us know if your amazing plugin will return. Anyway,I’m sure it’s not easy providing something for free and giving support and updates as well. He may just be burned out? I’m keeping my fingers crossed for now.

I hear ya. As I’m sure you know, I definitely wouldn’t download plugins from untrusted sources. I’ve read Nightmares about people loading plugins with malware in them that’s almost impossible to remove. I’ve been looking at WP Pipes as an alternative just in case multi importer is really dead. I’m not sold on it yet though.

I agree. The “other” aggregator plugin seems fine and I would even pay the $70 asking price if I got the full plugin (You only get one addon for that price). And I’d do it if I only had to pay once (It’s an annually recurring fee if you want updates). So I would love to see rss multi importer return with a one-time fee that was reasonable. I also have the plugin running on my site with no issues… So far so good:)

Not sure why the link didn’t post. Link

I found this post that leads me to believe it was removed by WordPress due to a security issue and that it may return once it is fixed ??

This is a sad day. My all time favorite plugin is gone!

I would love to know if WP RSS Multi Importer is dead or not. I love this plugin!! Any recommendations on an alternative? I was looking at WP RSS Aggregator but it’s so expensive and I’m not sure how well it works.

    Hey guys,

I never figured out the correct function. What I did was changed the rssmi image settings. Instead of using the featured image of the post, I set up a “category” relationship in rssmi and then associated an image to each category in rssmi. I had about 200 feeds so it took some time but it works fine. My image is now linked to the original source. I disabled the title link so it’s not clickable. I did this because I don’t want people opening the post when they click anything on my “Search results” page. Warning – if you use rssmi to add a featured image, it adds a duplicate image to your media library. If you add the image to the excerpt, it does not. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the fast reply! I’ll give it a try. Do I add this to the code for adding a search form that you have on your website ? I don’t see any other way to add a search form besides using a widget. I don’t think there’s an easy way to edit the widget settings, at least not that I’m aware of. I’ll also have to figure out the css because using a widget looks good but using the code has some styling issues. I think I can figure it out though.

Great plug in! Thanks again ??
