Recently I started seeing this problem cropping up again, despite of the fact that no plugin was causing this issue. Seeing no other option I decided to revert my theme back to my earlier Genesis theme.
As soon as I did this I found the problem completely vanish.
In your case if plugins are not the cause, try switching to Genesis theme (Child theme).

I don’t think it’s due to any Malware, the Preload request is actually a good thing, because it tells the browser to preload certain things prior to others resulting in better page speed.

I was looking for a simple drawing plugin for the front end users for allowing them to draw quick wiring diagrams, but couldn’t find any except yours.

Just wanted to update this: the mentioned issue is not due to AO, or any Ad inserter plugin, in my case it was due to the plugin called “social warfare” ….so there may be certain plugins that may trigger this issue, try deactivating each, one by one to check which one is causing the problem…

I am extremely sorry and embarrassed for all the trouble and for wasting your time.

Surprisingly now it is working. I am so happy! May be there was something not right with my earlier settings.

I basically want that when a user clicks on the header (title) of my site, it should redirect him to a static page (which is quite easy to do)

And when the user clicks on the “blog” link on the navigation bar it should take him to the paginated homepage and its sub-pages /2/3…and so on (the normal type of homepage which we usually see in any site).

But the problem is that when I create a static page for the homepage, the homepage and its sub-pages totally become inaccessible since they all start redirecting to this static page.

So creating a separate “blog” page that would redirect to the earlier paginated homepage and its sub-pages becomes just impossible.

I tried the suggested methods by creating a preferred static page, and a blank “blog page” and then set them up under the “Reading” page. But it resulted in both the “blog” page and the homepage and all its sub-pages redirecting to the static page.

I am just ordinary blogger and do not have any developers skill, so I may be missing something seriously, not sure what?

Strangely enough now the downloaded image is correctly matching the wordpress data.

I am not sure how I couldn’t get this working the other day.

Anyway thanks very much for verifying the issue. It seems the fault was perhaps in my computer.

I truly appreciate this plugin, because these 404 were caught only by this plugin, and I could not see them anywhere in my search console crawl error report. However, the image indexing in the sitemap section was gradually declining.

OK, it’s confirmed now. The problem was indeed due to the anti-hotlinking in my htacess.

I removed it, and now these 404s have stopped appearing.

I’d request the moderator to kindly remove the links which I provided in the above comment.

I am happy to inform everybody that the issue has been identified by me. It was happening because I was trying to save a post without a title. So if you try to save a draft without a title then it will revert to Gutenberg, however if the post is drafted with a title this issue will simply not occur!

Thanks @lukefiretoss, I will surely try that, but at the moment I can carry on with the situation since the problem occurs only when the “Save Draft” is pressed. So perhaps I can finalize the draft on some other platform and then quickly publish it in WordPress,…once published it never reverts to Gutenberg.
