Thanks for the reply. I’ve actually opted for the Frontier theme as it only took me a couple of hours to build a new site in the way I wanted it to look. I had struggled with Codium Grid, Twenty Fourteen and Ridizain for too long.

Others who are looking for a versatile three column theme may like to look at Frontier. I spent days fighting with Hueman and Ridizain and couldn’t achieve the results I wanted, but the outcome of just a few hours work with the Frontier theme can be seen here.

Just bumping this topic as this problem has been bugging me too. Can anyone explain why “display: table;” works, but “display: block;” doesn’t?

I just discovered the Frontier theme, what a great find! After struggling for a couple of weeks with various themes including Twenty Fourteen and the derivative Ridizain, I built this test site in just a few hours using Frontier.

Well, I’m making very slow progress on the column widths.

I’v added some Javascript code to report the width of various elements and am now exploring the hidden depths of the CSS. It’s fascinating but extremely tedious.

A simple theme which has three resizeable columns would be a better place to start, but I have searched the theme library to no avail.

The header problems are still a mystery.

I am using a child theme already as I have some custom CSS for the sidebar text and all background colours.

Your header image has a lot of padding and a lot of whit background both top and bottom. Try reducing the padding in your custom CSS file and crop the height of the image by at least 30%.

To get a post in the grid the “Sticky” check-box under “Publish -> Visibility” needs to be ticked. I’ll have to create a few more posts with different tags and categories to see which six are featured.

I’ll need to dig deeper into making a child theme and find which php file I need to modify to display these posts in a selective manner.

Ah, so there is clearly a lack of support on this theme. That’s not very helpful is it.

I guess I’ll have to go and find one that does have support.
