I’ve seen this a couple of times while I was getting our site set up, but I just recreated the URL and it then worked and has continued working OK.

If you remove the values from the table, CFDB takes away the column.

So one way to try would be to delete the records which include your test fields.

You should then find that the column is gone.

Do yo have the Postman plugin? If not, suggest you get it and then you can try its email setup tests and use its transcripts of SMTP sessions to diagnose where you may have an issue.

External as in not on your server?

Not sure. We use CFDB which saves it on our host, then we have an automated download which we can use to populate our database

If you don’t have DB skills that is possibly a much simpler route.

Do you use Postman? Postman logs the last 250 email session transcripts so you’d be able to see what was actually sent. If there’s another problem corrupting the email before this however it wouldn’t help.

No, but you can save the contents of the form (not quite the same as the email) using the CFDB plugin.

I believe Flamingo (from the CF7 developer) does the same, but I haven’t tried it.

Really frustrating to find a relevant sounding thread in a search and marked as resolved no less to read through and find that there is no resolution in the thread and not even a lead from the OP as to which is the relevant plugin.

It mentions post, but I think perhaps works for pages too. I have not had working as it won’t work when the form is in the sidebar as in my case.

Not sure what the problem with wget was, but I found that using curl instead worked.

I used curl -o local_filename_for_saving-excel “http link from shortcut/export editor”

I had to put the http link in double quotes of this to work.

In my case I’ve never had it working as I’, relatively new to the plug-in, but I get the same error message.

Would be great to have this working as my main user is not familiar enough with WP etc to easily login and grab the data.

Hi Alin – I think you can mark this as closed. I did test carefully before making the report, but now I can’t reproduce reliably. I may have made other changes in the mean time so perhaps a code error somewhere else was causing the problem.

When I tried it a couple of days ago it was still happening. I had a couple of errors in the IE F12 console due to stray hyphens in HTML comments. When I tried to load the page I was getting a 72 second delay waiting for a fonts file from Google, but this only happened with IE.

Anyway – I’ll make a new post if it reoccurs and I can tie it with certainty to GADWP (which I now think unlikely). Thanks for responding.

Thanks Jan – clearly at a disadvantage in terms of experience here both in time and role…

All I can do is highlight (as a request) that the forums be built and operated to be as useful to members as possible.

Your arguments, whilst completely valid, argue for controls to make managing them easier/feasible.

I believe that these controls cater for the worst possible scenarios and as a byproduct devalue the forums.

If it did become possible in the future to be able to edit posts, but maintain an audit history of changes, the value could be maintained and the necessary controls could still be used.

In the case of someone rewriting history to remove evidence of a tranrgression, the evidence would still be there.

In the case of a repeat spammer, I’d suggest there is no difference. They can spam on new posts or spam on edited posts. It’s more likely that they’d continue to spam on new posts as the audience is bigger. Either way they can be sanctioned just as easily.

FWIW I also believe that time-closing topics is not helpful either. I find plenty of topics here and elsewhere which are unresolved, but for which I believe I know the solution.

“So what?” you may say, the topic is dead.

It’s once again a question of perspective. I view the forums as a searchable resource of knowledge, not just as a live forum for debate and live learning. I think that’s because I’m a newb, but there are lots of newbs arriving? I would have thought that were to be encouraged to avoid repetitious asking and solving of “done” topics?

Maybe there’s another solution I’m missing. Anyway, I’m probably already getting boring and repetitious here, so if I don’t reply again, don’t take offence. It’ll be me not wishing to obligate you to spend any more time replying ??
