Yes, I was eventually able to make the buttons not load, by lots of refreshes of the page.
I will contact the author PayPal payments plugin and let him know.
In the meantime I have updated to 3.4.7.

Sorry, but it’s still not working. PayPal checkout buttons are hidden still.

One month gone by and no reply from the developers.

It really seems that they have stopped supporting this theme and I’m gutted to have wasted money on a lifetime license.

Time to move over to Kadence or Generate Press, both of which have A1 support.

You must have done something wrong then, because I have just deleted that line and the problem comes back.

In any case the developer told me they would be issuing a new version soon that fixes this problem.
