How would I found out how it is done right now?

Like for example, if I search for “thrustmaster” at this point in time, I get different results provided by different plugins. I want to have Relevanssi providing the search results and I’m not entirely sure whether that’s what’s actually happening:

Woocommerce Instant Product Search Widget: The AJAX search results show TS-XW and TMX Pro as the first results. However, if I press enter in the search box, it brings me to:

    https://www.gameshome.com.sg/?s=thrustmaster&post_type=product&tags=0&limit=10&ixwps=1

The above shows me the T-16000M FCS Flight Pack and T3PA as the first 2 search results.

Mini Search: It shows me T-16000M FCS Flight Pack and T3PA as the first 2 search results (similar to pressing enter on the Instant Product Search Widget). But the URL is different:

    https://www.gameshome.com.sg/?s=thrustmaster&post_type=product

Product Search: It shows me the same results as Mini Search because the URL is the same:

    https://www.gameshome.com.sg/?s=thrustmaster&post_type=product

Search: This shows me no results based on the standard url:

    https://www.gameshome.com.sg/?s=thrustmaster&post_type%5B%5D=post

If I change it to products (https://www.gameshome.com.sg/?s=thrustmaster&post_type%5B%5D=product) it will show me the same results as the other plugins (T-16000M Flight Pack and T3PA) but in a different format (a long list below each other).

    So, now my questions are:

    1. Are any of the results I’m seeing, the results that come from Relevanssi and how can I make sure that they are?
    2. How can I customise which page is called from the widget i use, like for example the Search widget?
    3. If I can get the widget to call Relevannssi search results, how do I now customize the actual results? Not the design or the layout, but how do I get say product A and B listed higher in the search results for certain keywords? I want to highlight the new products to ensure they get proper exposure during searches.
    4. Is there a way I can customize Relevanssi search results to show a banner for specific keywords (or similar keywords) that will click through to that brand’s landing page? Like I want to have Page A linked if keyword SEARCH is typed.

Basically after all this trying and testing, I can’t seem to figure out what to do next to get Relevanssi working. I don’t know if it’s working, I don’t know how to get people to see the working results and I don’t know how to get Relevanssi configured and customized in a way that makes it practical for me.

Really appreciate your suggestions and sorry to keep hammering on this. I really am at a loss here.

Thanks for that. That clarifies (a little) ??

You need to change the post_type parameter to “product” to see products, or “any” (or remove it) if you want to see all post types.

How would I do this specifically?

    Dear Mikko,

Unfortunately it did not change anything either. There’s no search.php. There was a searchform.php but changing that, changed nothing to the search results page. I eventually was able to “hack” things a little bit. I found the breadcrumbs file that printed something on screen, that I was able to customise to check the search term and then update the printing accordingly.

Not neat, but it does the trick. As for changing the Theme, I agree but unfortunately things are not that simple. One day I may go through that trouble, but for the time I’m stuck with this.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Based on what you advised, I was able to find a solution/work-around that at least resolves the issue for me. Hopefully others will have more success with their setup ??

    Regards!

    Dear Mikko,

Thank you so much for taking the time to look into my issue and giving me suggestions on how I can resolve the problem I’m having.

Unfortunately, I’m still running into a bunch of issues.

    – Mario was just an example. If I go to https://www.gameshome.com.sg/?s=thrustmaster&post_type=page for example, it does give me the results for 2 pages, but the challenge here is that I only want 1 result to show up, not 2. I want to customise what people see when they search for a small subset of keywords, by presenting a “page banner” at the top that brings them to all products of that type.

    – More importantly, I’m facing challenges with customising the search results page. I can’t seem to get it to show up anything I change:
    1. In my Sistina (my current theme) settings, I go to Theme Options, then Pages and Search and change the words for what it shows as a search result. Nothing changes after saving.
    2. In my WordPress Pages, I go to the Search page and see [woocommerce_search]. I add Blah Blah and save, yet nothing changes to the resulting page. I try to change the layout a bit (like move the sidebar to the left) and again nothing changes.
    3. In Appearance -> Widgets, I see 3 search widgets. Currently the one that I’m using is Woocommerce Product Search Widget (which was the one that came default with Woocommerce installation), which may explain why it adds the post_type to the URL. So, I change it to Search or Mini Search. When I search for something then, nothing shows up. It just tells me that no matter what I search for, nothing is found.

    The URL changes to: https://www.gameshome.com.sg/?s=mario&post_type%5B%5D=post

And the text shows: Apologies, but no results were found for the requested archive. Perhaps searching will help find a related post.

No matter what I change, nothing seems to be happening and I’m at a loss. What am I doing wrong? Is my theme driving me nuts, is it the fact that Relevanssi is not even called properly from the “Woocommerce Product Search” widget? I can’t figure out why nothing changes when I update things on the search side.

Thanks again for your help and hopefully you have some suggestions on where else I can look.

Sorry, to add on: at first, I didnt have pages checked. When I wanted to get the pages to show up in the results, I checked pages and saved the settings.

Thank you very much for your guidance. That makes a lot of sense in that case. I’ll submit the idea to see if there’s any take up on it!

issue resolved. The issue was fixed after identifying the problematic plugin with some funky rewrite rules. How to identify:

    1. Go to Settings-Permalinks and Click Save (recommended step 1)
    2. Go to WooCommerce-Plugins and disable ALL plugins, including WooCommerce (other guides advise leaving WooCommerce Activated, but in my case it was required to deactivate WooCommerce as well)
    3. Reactivate WooCommerce (this cycle fixed the issues caused by the broken plugin)
    4. While testing the reloading of the Thank You page in a different tab/window, reactivate 1 plugin at a time to identify the problematic plugin.

    Hope this helps someone else!

Thanks for the feedback! Fortunately, I was able to fix it by disabling all orders from other countries as my store currently only supplies to customers located in 2 countries.

    Thanks again for the response!

Correction, turns out all the attempted shipping are for this spammer:

amin ghafli, No 2 Alley 5 panj tabaghe Free Way Golestan, ahwaz, khuzestan, 6134795179, Iran

Unfortunately, I’m forced to run Woocommerce 2.0.20 as my theme-developer has failed to update his code for over 4 months now. Luckily, with your comment, I figured this might be a compatibility issue, so by modifying the download command here, I was able to download and reinstall the 2.0.2 version of the plugin and this resolved the issue.

    Hi Ryan,

Just updated to 1.1.5 and that fixed the problem. Thanks for responding so quickly! ??

By the way, if I would like to use your table-rate plugin twice (one for standard shipping, one for courier), how would I best go about doing that? Do I just make a copy of the file and put it in the plugins folder, or do I need to manually edit the entire file and change all references for table_rate to courier_table_rate? ??

Hey, I’ve done some initial testing, but the new code seems to /always/ return the highest value. Just did a test of a product with a value of $34.90 and created 2 entries:

    $0-$40: $2
    $40-$80: $4

With a product of $34.90 it gives $4 as the shipping rate.

Then the way the products are lined up becomes extremely staggered and unsightly. I have resorted to just cropping the images, which is all but ideal and hopefully I’ll be able to figure an alternative approach in the future, maybe using a different template or someone comes up with an image processing engine that allows the padding to work. Thanks for responding tho! Appreciate it!

Let me give this a try tomorrow! By the way, I modify your script slightly to allow for measuring by weight (I use $woocommerce->cart->cart_contents_weight; instead of $woocommerce->cart->cart_contents_total;). Any chance you could offer this as an option in the settings? That would be a great help!

Also, you mentioned that you use the greatest max value in the table as the largest shipping cost. Any chance this could be configured to “disable” the plugin above a certain weight as well? Or is the eligibility check done elsewhere in Woocommerce and cant be controlled from the plugin?

Thanks again for the excellent support! Really loving your work! ??
