Also I failed to mention that I am using a child theme. @andrew, I looked at the custom-style plugin but it has not been updated for two years and worried about possible conflict or compatibility with the current WP version. Have you experienced any issues regarding that plugin?

Sorry, I am working from a child theme. used firebug but did not find the rule, call it PEBKAC (problem exists between keyboard and chair)

I modified the footer to one column the used:
#supplementary .widget a {
color: red;
}

And it worked great. Thanks all for your responses, greatly appreciated!

I found this post as I was trying to do something similar. Two issues, (1) it also changed the footer which I need to have a different color
(2) I would like the sidebar to stretch to the size of the page even if the sidebar has no content.

Any thought?

Thank Andrew, worked fine. You lost me a bit with mentioning excess of parent elements. I’m still trying to gain a better understanding of the parent child relationships in CSS.

I do notice that even with the modification I still have space below the rollover. If you see this point would you be able to tell me what rule needs to be modified?
