I agree….for some reason it smells like a host thing. But what I don’t understand is why would it work under a different directory name and not under the name online-dating-blog. I don’t know enough about the host side of the house to even have a clue.

My host is Ipower….man, they really don’t want to take responsibility for any software that I may install. However, in the past if I was able to tell them specifically what the problem was, I may get them to help. Again, any clue why it would work on the server under a diretory called dating but not under a directory called online-dating-blog — especially when it worked at one time under this directory name.

Dear Experts….I continue my experiment. Hopefully your comments and my trial and error will help others who may come across this same problem.

    Here is the latest.

The directory I put wordpress in is online-dating-blog

It has been indexed by google.

So in my endeavors to fix the Precondition Error, I would rename the directory to something like online-dating-blog-backup.

Create a new directory, and again call it online-dating-blog and installl WordPress again. Would get the same Precondition failed error right after the install (no changes made).

This time I installed WordPress and put it in a directory called dating

Went in to check out WordPress and no errors.

So is there a rule in WordPress about naming your directories with hyphens? I didn’t read any?

Any guess why when I used the directory name online-dating-blog I get this Precondition error, but if I install WordPress in another directory with a single name I do not get this error?

Hmmmm, any clues would be appreciated. If I have to not use that directory name I guess that is ok….but again, only because it is already indexed by google I was trying to keep the same name.

By the way, this precondition error did not always exist. It started about 2 weeks ago — at least a month prior to that I never saw this error even with my directory named online-dating-blog. It’s like once the error started, that directory is no good anymore. I can see the error continuing with the first install, but when I do a fresh install and use the same name for my directory, why would I get the error then…..????????

    puzzling?????????

Yep it was a theme thing, but I also got the same Precondition failed error. Uncanny! I can’t get rid of it and WordPress the only place it exist.

Well guys, your help has been appreciated, but for now I’m going to put this to bed or I’ll be at it until Christmas.

However, I learn a lot along the way. Thank you for that.

Wow Podz…you are fantastic…hope this pays off for someone else besides me.

Well, I didn’t give up. Did more searching and this time I got the exported database to execute in the new database without error. Man, I thought great.

Then I typed the new directory in the browser and it came up a blank page….hmmmmmmm.

No errors, just a blank page instead of the WordPress home page/index page. I’m sure the right tweaking would fix it. Any idea what it is?

    thanks again
    steve

p.s. I battled my host about the Precondition failure error….they don’t seem to care nor will they help.

Thanks podz for your efforts. I read you info on your site (very nice site by the way), but nothing seems to work. This all started with that darn Precondition Failure errro and after two weeks of trying to get it resolved I’m mentally exhausted.

I hate the thought, but maybe I need to look for another blog program. I would hate the thought of reinstalling WordPress again, copying it over to new installation and down the road this same error popus up again. I know, no guarantees, but with my little knowledge, not sure what else to do.

thanks for your efforts. it was appreciated.

Podz…not sure I get your comment.

I have to intall a fresh copy of WordPress to eliminate the error i keep getting.

Doesn’t dropping a database delete it. That seems dangerous. What happens if I don’t get it to import properly in the new database…gulp!

I don’t see any import function in phpmyadmin. I see an export tab, but nothing about importing a database. The only thing I found close is under the SQL tab which has a function to browse for a sql file which I used to browse for the sql file I exported.

Help please….sorry guys, my knowledge of sql is limited.

    Thread Starter steveeyes

    (@steveeyes)

sorry, I should of mention that. also, maybe I should mention I’m using phpmyadmin to try to do this. When I go to the new database I click on the SQL tab and use the function to browse and locate the sql file. Here is the error I get (I copied and pasted it).

Thanks for the feedback. I did find from my search concerning the bad behavior plugin, but I don’t have that plug in.

Scaturn may I ask you how to specifically ask your suggestion to my host (ipower). They really aren’t helpful and unless I’m as specific as I can be, they willl not help. I’m not knowledgeable enough to reword your suggestion for analyzing my Apache files. Sorry, I guess I wonder what it is that I should ask them to analyze or what specific problem to look for or fix.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply. It helped me figure it out. Not sure how this happen. I have the RSS2 graphic on my home page with a link of

    https://www.filipinaeyes.com/online-dating-blog/?feed=rss2

Not even sure where I got that from.

When I go to the WordPress blog, and click on the RSS link at the bottom it gives me a link of:

    https://www.filipinaeyes.com/online-dating-blog/feed/

So my problem or confusion was I had two different links. The 2nd link shows all the categories.

I still don’t where I got this link from

    https://www.filipinaeyes.com/online-dating-blog/?feed=rss2

which only shows my default category. Hmmm, confused, but thanks.

wow…i guess no help or solution. May I ask this. If you are using the latest version of WordPress and have more then one category, does all the posts from all categories show up in your RSS 2.0 document? Or does only the posts from your default category show up?

If someone knows why only the default category posts show up in the RSS 2.0, I’d be grateful for an answer.

    thanks

sorry I’m such a rookie at this. Never heard of Feeburner until now. Did some research, but still now sure it will do what I want.

Are you saying that a Feedburner will take my greymatter RSS that is here:

    https://www.filipinaeyes.com/Dating-RSS-Feed/rss.xml

and it will redirect subscribers to the above feed to the WordPress RSS which is here:

    https://www.filipinaeyes.com/online-dating-blog/?feed=rss2
