I have the same problem running 4.98 wordpress. just flashes the menu that you expect to come up and disappears again.

it told me there was an error in the code, but the the appearance in Customise looks like it put the sidebar widget prompt to the side.

There is 1 error which must be fixed before you can save.
Update anyway, even though it might break your site?

That’s great! If it helps, I am using an automated install of WordPress through Hostmonster into as a subdomain.
