thanks for your comment. I did not have the problems you mentioned.
In fact I was lucky: somehow after a while the product categories and products appeared again – I believe my database/ server took some while to process the changes made by the update. I then only had to fix problems with product pictures not being displayed at all. I copied back the previous versions of flatsome woocommerce/templates, specifically “content-product_cat.php” and “content-product.php” and then it was all back on track.
Hope for all you other people with the combination of woocommerce 2.6.2 and flatsome theme not to face similar issues….
