Sorry about this one! As most often the problem was not WordPress, but a conflict with a plugin. Or in my case some old custom code in functions.php.

Thanks, but nothing new there. I have followed the tips and instructions (which is the same as the Codex) and it still crops from the center…

Might this be a bug in (latest) WordPress?
