In reply to: How create a Custom Page TemplateI have a similar concern but not sure what your specifics are for the custom homepage. In my case, I’m going to move wordpress into a subdirectory so my homepage will have a standalone index and custom look which will include a link to my wordpress Platform home page. Once through my initial home page access link, the rest of the way is all Platform.

In reply to: Review site registration formsLooks like it’s been awhile since you posted this. In case you haven’t got sorted, you might want to look into installing a Forum on your site, rather than opening your site to posts by the random public. I’ve just come across Mingle Forum which is really well documented on YouTube. I also found the developer is very responsive in support of his products should you run into a problem with implementing anything.
I actually had what turned out to be an internal problem at my web host that coincided with my installing Mingle Forum. The plug-in works great, and it has a guest registration feature. I just had a mysteriously set memory allocation that tilted when I added Mingle Forum after having loaded many widgets beforehand. My host went top heavy and it caused my Dashboard to go blank. Yikes!
So beware, if you’ve got a lot of plug-ins activated, make sure with your hosting company that your memory allocation is adequate. I have no idea why my allocation was below what is should have been, but once I upped it my Dashboard came back and all’s been peachy since.
Now I’m going to find out why my registration function permission is being denied on my site. I’ll post something if it turns out to be an easy fix.

In reply to: Online Magazine DesignI don’t usually go for those really packed front pages, I’m all for the more artful, less all-in-your face kind of front end. For me, really elegant magazine layout and navigation are the ticket. Yup, I know most of design comes down to what the client already wants, and clients don’t always have the best design sensibility.
But the zine content looks fantastic! Like a great place for getting the kind of news I’m interested. Glad I checked it out. And I’ve bookmarked it.
Have fun with putting together future zines.

In reply to: [Mingle Forum] Mingle Forum activated but my Dashboard disappeared! It turned out, most likely, that an internal memory allocation at my web host was too low so activating the plug-in pushed it over the edge. With the memory allocated higher, all is well and the activation went without a hitch.
