Mage111, thanks for your comments. I 100% agree that I have some house cleaning of my own to do. Some of this is laziness on my part, in addition to trying to learn the best way to use WordPress.

I think it looks very nice. I’m always amazed at how varied WordPress blogs look.

I was probably too vague in my original post. I was mostly talking about design/usability issues. (Having comments appear in popups is a great one that I forgot about).
In terms of content, I think there are some cliches that can be boring. I’ve only been weblogging for a month, so I’m sure I don’t have the most riveting content yet. But I’m learning what works and what doesn’t. I definitely try to avoid just posting links to a news story, or single sentence posts (although some creep in).
When writing, my motto is: Am I adding a unique perspective or insight? Is this something no one else could write? Alas, the answer isn’t always “yes”, but that is what I strive for.

I like it. The only thing I’ve noticed is that in Firefox, the date and title of posts are not styled. Neither is “Monthly Archive”.

The name SpaceRook is a nickname I’ve been using for a long time. I started playing chess online about ~8 years ago and that was the username I made up. It’s stuck ever since. I’ve never seen anyone else use it, so I’ve kept it ??

View the gridded background image by itself. It looks like pure black when it’s alone on a white background. I was fiddling with that *forever* today (“Why the hell is the image all black when I view it outside of my page?”).

I’m currently looking at the problems in IE6. I don’t think I’ve done anything TOO radical, though. Has anyone else had this problem? The problem is that if you rapidly scroll up and down, the lists on the right get torn up. Also, the headers for ‘Sinny’ and ‘Politics’ are both small, while they should appear the same size as the ‘Dead Trees’ link. This all looks fine in Firebird and Opera.

Any permalinks? Where are the images and what do your src attributes looks like? Do they image files have the right permissions?
