In reply to: new to wordpress – any feedback on my site?Excellent use of contrast. Most people blow it when using a black background, but you got it right.
I can’t tell what that image on the upper right is, though. It kinda looks like a boxing nun, but I’m not sure.
The strikethough for links isn’t a choice I’d make, but I think it’s fine for your design. The only time my cursor is over a link is when I’m about to click on it, so it’s a moot point to me.

In reply to: Brian the GeekSimple, but effective.
The calendar through me for a loop, though. I expected the red numbers to be links and the black numbers to be non-links. In your articles, the links are red.

In reply to: Another MT convertLooks cool. I wasn’t able to leave a comment on your South Park article, though ?? I submitted one but nothing showed up. I wanted to show you my South Park creation!

In reply to: Site Converted From MT to WPI like it ?? The links on the right side will be a little small for some people, though.

In reply to: Thoughts & RamblingsSweet, I see we think a like. I also put the date to the left in my latest design. I also went for a minimalist approach.
I love the color scheme of blue and grey that you’ve chosen. I’d consider using a third color, such as orange, just to give it an extra kick. Perhaps use it for links, or the category names.

In reply to: Technicolor templatePretty cool. At first, I was like “What….?” and then I refreshed and saw what the big deal was.

In reply to: two fishLooks cool. I think the beige background contrasts nicely with the red header. The right menu section doesn’t do it for me, though. If it were me, I’d probably make it a solid(er) color, but that’s just me ??
Nice job for someone starting out.

In reply to: my first WP siteInteresting, although it doesn’t look like you have any content yet and that is the really important part. I like the diagonal line motif that you use throughout the page.

In reply to: Spacerook.com updatedThanks for the kind words.
Root, it doesn’t bother me that you weren’t keen on my last design. I knew my original design was a little “odd” and some people weren’t into it. In fact, as I started to write more articles, I realized many shortcomings of the design. I made a list of what I didn’t like and tried to fix it with the new style. In reply to: www.homocoit.usAwesome design, but the light gray text on slightly lighter gray background hurts my eyes. Make that text a little darker and you’re perfect.

In reply to: It’s getting close.I like the colors too. I’d recommend adding a background image to give the page a little texture. Squid Fingers has tons of ’em.
Also, check out the letter-spacing. The word “comments” under your first post looks pretty crunched. (The default WP install’s letter spacing is too small, IMHO).

In reply to: Bad Blog TrendsI’m, too, am surprised at what weblogs often top the lists. Are most people *really* that into ‘Dive Into Mark’? Or reading about some teenage girl’s dating life? (OK, I admit I’d read about the latter ?? ).
I’m more interested in writing about topics that we all can relate to, such as politics, tech, movies, etc… But I think that has a downside as well. Certainly, we have a TON of political weblogs out there. Most are obvious in their leanings. I know I don’t add much to the conversation, but a) I generally post my ideas and not just links to articles and b) it’s satisfying to have a forum to express yourself.
The best webblogs are the ones that produce original, funny content. 8BitJoystick and BoingBoing are two good ones. And PennyArcade…jesus, that is the best written website out there. I am amazed at how well written it is day after day.
I’ve tried the irreverant approach, with some success (i.e., articles on great/bad heavy metal album art, 80’s music essentials, cheesy zombie movies, etc…). It’s fun to write about and I get lots of hits. But what I really want to do is get more comments. Perhaps I will ask this question is another thead.

Oh, and I implemented most of the fixes that’s Mage111 talked about.
