In reply to: New “magazine front” themeThis looks interesting! For your reviews, events, etc you might want to check out the Structured Blogging plugin at https://www.structuredblogging.org
I am moving my event calendar/guide/internet radio station (www.exploitboston.com) over to WordPress. If you’re interested in sharing your theme (and links to/from each of our sites, perhaps!), I’m interested in it. ??

In reply to: What Features Would You Want In An Event Manager?Hey Amory: I tried to contact you through your blog but the contact page doesn’t seem to be working. If you’re looking for more feedback about future updates to EventPress, let me know. I’ve had an event calendar running off of MovableType since late 2002 so this is something I’ve thought about a lot over the years. I’ve been wanting to move the site to WordPress but never found the right plugins, etc to make it possible. Here’s my contact page if you want to conspire: https://www.sooz.com/contact-sooz
Thanks!
MichaelH: Thanks for the reminder to use Google. I was going to check that out but was hoping to get direct recommendations from people. I did find this doing a Google search for “WordPress +CMS” which looks interesting! It’s a WP plugin to add additional CMS functionality to WordPress.
Thanks David and MichaelH for the info!
MichaelH: that list you noted seems to be mostly blogs. I would love to see websites that are more than blogs who use WordPress to power their entire website. I mentioned registration but that wouldn’t have to be handled by the WP website directly.
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: 7 days – 7 bannersOops I missread your original question. I see you want something “by day” and not “by page.” Well, in case you change your mind, maybe this will be helpful or I’m sure it can be tweaked for something day specific … I’m just not enough of a geek to know how to do that.

In reply to: 7 days – 7 bannersI’m using Chetan Kuntea€?s “plain vanilla” theme and he explains how to set up a set of header/banner images for specific pages in the comments area of the theme at
https://chetan.ckunte.com/archives/2005/03/07/plain-vanilla-1/
The question is comment #76 and the answer is comment #77. You should be able to adapt this for whatever theme you’re using, etc.
If you decide you want to just rotate images at random and not associate them with a specific page, I use Dan Benjamin’s image rotator script that he wrote about at A List Apart:
https://www.alistapart.com/articles/betterrotator/
I’ve got it in action on my website at https://www.sooz.com

In reply to: Latest photos as thumbnails in sidebarIf you have a flickr account you could create a badge for this sort of thing (but I realize that might not really be what you are looking for).

In reply to: Duplicate permalinksThanks for the pointer macmanx! It looks like that plugin solved the problem. Nifty.

In reply to: XML Parsing Error on RSS FeedI just realized it’s going to be an even bigger hassle to reinstall unless i put it at sooz.com/wordpress where it is right now. Ugh. Well, I guess I’ll give WP one more try. ??

In reply to: XML Parsing Error on RSS FeedI think I’m just going to install it in the root of sooz.com instead of having it in a seperate directory.
But the problem I now have is I have no idea how to install a new version of WP and have it work with my existing MySQL database. Egads. This sucks. LOL

In reply to: XML Parsing Error on RSS FeedThanks, mcmanx. I think I’ll just reinstall WP. After I figure out how to backup and import the entries.
I was really happy to move from Movable Type but this has all been a bit much. LOL

In reply to: XML Parsing Error on RSS FeedI deactivated the plugins a while ago.
Sooz = she.
Thanks for the tip about opening all the files. I have a feeling it’d just be easier to re-install WP. Since I have no opened all of those files in the first place it seems strange that now there might be an extra line in one of them.

In reply to: XML Parsing Error on RSS Feedmacmanus: Yes, I see the blank line when viewing source. That’s part of the reason this is so frustrating. I do see it. However, it’s not showing up in t he files I’ve been looking at.
I removed every extra carriage return on the following files:
sooz.com/index.php
sooz.com/wordpress/index.php
sooz.com/wordpress/wp-content/themes/default/index.php
sooz.com/wordpress/wp-blog-header.php
sooz.com/wordpress/wp-rss2.phpNo luck, alas.

In reply to: XML Parsing Error on RSS FeedUnfortunately I can’t find the file where the blank line is it. It’s not in index.php or wp-blog-header.php …. I guess if nothing else I’ll delete everything and reinstall. But damn that would suck. ??
