After much experimentation, I use Lightroom for editing, then the Smugmug Plugin to sync from Lightroom to Smugmug, then Photonic to display my Smugmug Album in WP.

It works a treat and is easy to manage from LR to, update, add/remove images, edit captions and manage a click-and-drag custom display order on Smugmug etc which is honoured on Photonic

I also use the mk Smug Syncback plugin in LR to allow me to make caption/title changes on Smugmug and sync them back to LR. The Smugmug plugin for LR is good, but it didn’t do everything I wanted. I wanted to be able to make changes when I didn’t necessarily have access to my laptop and LR Classic. This plugin fills that gap.

Yes Smugmug provide a LR plugin. This keeps LR Publish Services in sync. It has a couple of idiosyncrasies butI find it good.

SmigMug support are fast and seem to know what they are talking about. There is a cost but to me its worth it. I just didn’t want to be tied to LR / WP….especially when factoring in diskspace etc.

I also use MK Smug Syncback which syncs changes made on Smugmug back to LR

As a photo hobbyist using Lightroom Classic I wanted a solution where I could sync LR exports with WordPress.

I tried assorted solutions including MG which I loved for its sync capabilities, but I eventually decided it wasn’t for me (other plugin issues/depending on WP folders which I don’t trust and a “disorganised” feel at the WP end) Jordy Meow is really helpful if you have MG issues.

I now use SmugMug and Photonic and love the solution!

Workflow is;
Edit pics in LR Classic and add captions etc

Use SmugMug sync to sync pics to SmugMug

Use Photonic to display the SmugMug Album in my WP posts / pages

I also uses a different LR plugin which let’s me sync from SmugMug back to LR if I want (if I edit captions on SmugMug for example and want to sync back LR)

I can change the display order of pics manually in SmugMug if I want if the sort order needs to be tweaked

I also love having the pics in a SmugMug album which displays nicely just incase WP ever blows up ??

I find Photonic a brilliant, flexible, easy-to-use plugin. Select the options you want and the code is generated for you. Easy, and easy to make changes (again auto-generated when you change whichever options you need to)
