Go to Settings (far right corner) and left click. Then left click on Readings tab. Set the number of posts to display per page there. Remember to save the update at the bottom of the page
Maybe try the same thing with a jpg file to troubleshoot it – it might be that the .png doesn’t work. I use text widgets for linkable pictures all the time and it works great, but I only use jpg format file.

Where’s your question posted at? I’ll try to answer it. Popup blocker is the only thing I could think of too, especially since it works fine on my system – can’t be the WP install. Thanks.
