I don’t have this option because I am on an older version of the theme. I am too afraid to update it because I have customisations in a child theme, so i have been avoiding upgrading!

Any advise on how I should do this update so that I don’t lose anything ?

Found it.
It was on the Appearance -> Menus – Edit Menus.

I had to select the options

Displays as dropdown
Displays language names
Displays flags
Forces link to front page

for my new Italian menu!
